~ Excerpt ~
~ Prologue– Peyton Present ~
I had lost her. And not like before. Not like when she pushed me away and I’d refused to leave. This time, I had lost all of her. Her heart. Her adoration. It was all gone. The love she’d had for me vanished. Her eyes changed when she looked at me; the brilliance in them faded. I had betrayed her in the worst possible way. Braelynn was the only woman I’d ever loved. She was the one who changed my entire life. All I’d ever wanted to do was protect her, and I had spent months trying to do just that. I wanted to keep her away from my past—away from secrets that could hurt her and destroy us. But instead, I’d stomped on our relationship, dragging her heart through the mud in the process. Her pain and her heartache were entirely my fault. She might never forgive me for what I did. The day he showed up at my office changed everything. I shouldn’t have let him blackmail me but I was caught off guard, and the only thing I’d wanted to do was shelter Braelynn from harm’s way. I watched as she sat on the couch, her loose tendrils covering the tears that dripped from her eyes. The cut on her lip had swollen in the past thirty minutes. Her eye was bruising, turning shades of blue and purple with each passing second. The sling that the paramedics had placed over her body was supporting her right arm. She held her head low while talking to the authorities. Her hands were coated with his dried blood. She glanced in my direction and her eyes told me everything. With that one look, I knew I had lost her. Forever. *** Melissa tapped on my glass office wall. Looking up, I noticed her point to the elevator and give me the thumbs up. I need to give my secretary a raise for putting up with the unstable man she works for, I thought to myself. It had been a little over a month since I last saw Braelynn. She had ignored every one of my calls and she wouldn’t speak to me. Any time I tried to see her she avoided me, and the few short times I did bump into her, she wouldn’t even look at me. Her green eyes had always been the conduits to her emotions. Without being able to look deeply into them, I had no inkling how she felt. She’d given me no choice but to lie to get her here. She would be pissed but at least she had come. There was one thing Braelynn never did half-assed, and that was her job. She took pride in what people thought of her in the workplace. So I had Melissa reach out to her and explain that there was an old case she had worked on while at PH Esquire, and the client would only speak to Braelynn. She took the bait. She looked beautiful in a tight gray skirt and orange blouse. I tried to hide the grin that I knew was spreading across my cheeks. Her heels had slammed against the marble floors before stopping at Melissa’s desk. I assumed she’d want to talk to this previous client and leave as quickly as possible. When Melissa began to explain that there was no client, her face whipped in my direction and her nose crinkled with anger. She tossed her bag on Melissa’s desk and marched towards me. I loved this fiery vixen that couldn’t hold her tongue and braced myself for her anger. “I have a job across town!” she shouted, stomping into my office. “I have cases I need to review. I have a schedule I need to maintain. What do you want?” “You!” I stood, resting my hands on my desk. It was a simple answer. She was what I wanted. What I needed to get back. “I did not get stuck in rush hour traffic to hear this.” She marched over to my desk and mimicked my pose on the opposite side. “Do not summon me with some bullshit excuse again. I am not your dog, Peyton. I do not come when you call!” She stood and twirled back towards the door. “You do not walk away from me!” I knew how to push her buttons. If she walked out of my office now, it would take me months to get her back. She looked back, and her eyes pierced through me with hatred. “We are over. I don’t know how many more ways I have to paint it for you, Peyton,” her finger pointing between our bodies, “but I can’t do this anymore. You lied to me for months. I cried myself to sleep so many times. And for what? Because you were a coward!” I walked around my desk, meeting her in the middle of the office. “We. Are. Not. Over. That will never be true. We’re never going to be over because I won’t allow it. Get that through your head. I won’t ever get over you, so us being over is irrelevant.” I lifted my hand to touch her cheek, but she pulled away. “We’ve done this song and dance before.” Her voice cracked with the pain I’d caused her. “I can’t go back to living that way.” “How many times do you want me to apologize?” I reached for her forearm and she didn’t stop me.” Come back to me, Braelynn. Forgive me.” “Please stop . . . ” She looked at my hands on her skin. I knew she felt the electric current running through us because where our fingers connected, I felt the same current. “I love you.” It was all I could say. “Stop. I’m tired of your mind games. I cried for so long, thinking of everything I could have possibly done wrong. And it was you, not me.” She yanked her arm away. “I’m not a toy that sits on your shelf to play with when you’re bored and horny. I am not the girl who will run back to you because you said you were sorry and that you love me. You want me to forgive you, earn me! Until then, there is no us.” She paraded out of my office. If she wanted me to earn her, I would. Braelynn belonged with me.

5 Stars

I've been waiting for this book since I read Melancholy in the Joker's Wrath series.  I was looking forward to Pippa and Tyke's book. I was a little let down that we didn't get any Tyke POV, but it was still really good.

Pippa is trying to find herself.  She's tired of not being able to have a normal life.  She wants people to quit treating her like she's fragile.  She can't tell them what happened to her because they'll just look at her with pity in their eyes and that's the last thing she wants.  She also doesn't know how to get Tyke to look at her more than a friend.  She wants him, but can she finally get him to see her?

Tyke knows that he wants Pippa.  He doesn't know if he can make a move on her with her past.  He doesn't want to pressure her and cause her to sink into herself and shut everyone out.  But after some really stupid moves on his part he needs to man up and claim her or let her go for good.  What will he do?

It's sad to say goodbye to the Joker's Wrath MC.  I really enjoyed this series and don't want to see it end.  Though I'm excited that we get Belle's story and Raide's story. Can't wait to see what Bella brings us now that the Joker's are done!!  No doubt in my mind it'll be amazing.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Kyle's Return by L.P. Dover

Title: Kyle's Return
Series: Gloves Off Series #5
Author: L.P. Dover
Release: Available Now
Genre: Adult, Contemporary Sports Romance

~ Synopsis ~

I promised myself I’d stay away from dangerous men, but I couldn’t live up to that when Kyle Andrews came back to town. He’s a manipulator, a guy who’ll do whatever it takes to get what he wants, sabotaging anyone who gets in the way. After a fatal fight left him wounded, his UFC career came to a close. He has nothing, but he’s determined to get it all back.

My name is Megan. I’ve known violence, pain, and what it feels like to be scared to live another day. All of that changed the moment I refused to be a victim. Now that my psychotic ex, Alex, can’t find me, I’ve been given a second chance. I owe my life to my friends. The same goes for Kyle. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to feel.

Everyone hates him. But for the life of me I don’t. There’s something about him I can’t ignore. Being with Kyle makes me want it all. However, in loving a hated man, I didn’t know it’d bring the life I fled from back to haunt me. Everywhere I go danger lurks and bad things happen. Kyle believes it’s because of him, but I’m starting to think otherwise. I think Alex has found me, and if so, this time he’s not going to let me go.

5 Stars

I was so happy when I found out that Kyle was getting a book.  While he's a jerk he deserved a chance to prove he could change. I knew he had it in him!  He definitely redeemed himself in my eyes, but did he redeem himself to everyone he set out to mend relationships with?

Kyle knows he messed up.  He never meant for his sister Kacey to get hurt in the process.  That's one of his biggest regrets is not seeing over his greed.  After being paralyzed in his last fight he's determined to make things right.  But it will have to be after he can get better.  He has a lot of healing to do before he can finally confront everyone else.  Will he come to terms with everything he did on his past?

Megan is determined to believe bad about Kyle.  She doesn't want anything to do with him.  She can't keep her eyes off him.  She sees something in him that no one else is willing to see though.  Can she help him make amends with his sister and the rest of the people he hurt?  Can she finally break free of her past?

This is an amazing book about redemption and that everyone deserves a chance to prove that they changed.  Just because you do something bad in life doesn't mean that you are a bad person.  You can change if you want too.

As fast as I could, I rushed into my room and changed into some comfortable clothes. I didn’t care if they weren’t sexy because that definitely wasn’t what I was going for tonight. Not with Kyle and I alone in my house. When I got downstairs, he was still standing in front of my favorite picture.

“I take it you took these?” he asked, pointing to the canvas.

“How can you tell?”

He walked from one frame to the next and glanced back at me over his shoulder. “I don’t know. It just seems like something you would do. I knew there was more to your story than just a girl who works at a gym.” His gaze then landed on my pink, cupcake flannel pants. “Nice PJ’s by the way. If you’re trying to go for unsexy, you failed.”

“The only way I’m going to let you come over is if you tell me you missed me this week.”

“Really?” I shrieked.

“Yep, now say the words, love.”

“No. That’s ridiculous. I’m not gonna lie.”

He snorted. “But you just did.”

I opened my mouth to say something and then stopped; he got me with that one. And judging by the satisfied chuckle he tried to contain, he knew it too. “Fine. You want to play games? Then it looks like you won’t be hearing what I have to say. Bye-bye, French fry.”

“Megan, wait—”

Taking the upper hand, I hung up the phone. He was going to drive me insane. I had to hand it to him, he could definitely get my blood pumping. I did miss him, but I wasn’t about to give in to his antics. If anyone was going to submit first, I wanted it to be him. I got my wish when my phone started to ring. Deliberately, I refused to answer it, hoping it’d make him feel the restlessness I felt inside.

With a smirk on my face, I pulled into my neighborhood. He was just going to have to sweat a bit longer.

To my surprise, that wasn’t going to be very long. Because in my driveway, there Kyle stood, beside a sleek, black motorcycle. I hit the button to my garage and pulled past him. He walked up to my door and opened it with a smirk on his face. “You are one stubborn woman, you know that?”

5 Stars

I loved this book. It was an amazing read.  I didn't know anything going into this book except it was Seth's book.  It was one of my favorite in the series.

Seth has had a rough life.  From the time he was a kid until he finally found his girl.  He went through a lot of heartache and it helps us understand why he was the way he was with Tabitha.  He had a lot of learning and help to get to be the man he wanted to be.

Juliet had a perfect life until that moment when she heard her parents talking about a letter.  She knew she was adopted, but she didn't know about a letter.  She let this letter consume her.  She almost lost everything because of it.

Watching the struggles that both Seth and Juliet had was heartbreaking.  To see them come together through all of these heartbreaking moments was even more special.  Sometimes the one thing you need most is right in front of us.  We may not know it, but hopefully one day we'll realize it before it's too late.
