~ Synopsis ~

Layton Morris and his brother Mike grew up not knowing what it would be like to live in a normal home. With no running water or electricity in their home, no parents around to protect them, they quickly learned how to survive and depend only on each other.

When a tragic accident takes Mike away from Layton, and the only other person that he ever let into his heart walked away from him, leaving his heart shattered, Layton focuses all of his time and energy into the ranch he and his brother dreamed of. He makes a vow to himself to never let love in again. The last thing Layton needed or wanted was more heartache.

Whitley Reynolds grew up in a privileged home in upstate New York. When she landed the star football player in high school no one was surprised, not even Whitley. She dreamed of a life with Roger living in New York City and happily followed him there.

The first time Roger hit her for arguing with him about a dinner party, she forgave him. The more it happened, the further Whitley withdrew from her friends and family. One fateful day things go to far. Whitley makes a promise to herself and finds the courage to do the one thing she thought she’d never be able to do.

Fleeing with her best friend Courtney, Whitley was determined to put her past behind her and start a new life in the small town of Llano, Texas, where no one would ever find out about her past.

Will they both ever learn to trust and love again, or will their pasts come back to haunt them, keeping them both alone and…

Broken.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Falling Behind by Dee Avila

~ Synopsis ~

Going into the her second year of high school in the rural town of Laton, Reese was ready to come out of her shell, experience life with her best friends and find a way to tell Titus she wanted to be more than friends. When Josh, the new student, shows up on the first day and a whirlwind relationship starts between him and Reese, she was in her own world and barely noticed her friend spiraling downhill. The night Josh pushed her to far her best friend died, causing her own world to spiral.

Trying to move on from losing her best friend and ignore what Josh did to her, Reese pulls away from everyone. She had to overcome her fears and face her demons to be able to move forward.

~ Excerpt ~

“Can you believe what a slut Reese is?” The short blonde asked, loudly.

“Right? Who has sex in the orchard when there’s a party going on?”

I clenched my fists, ready to slam them into their faces. I spun toward them, slamming my locker shut. “Listen here” I looked out at the crowd of students scattered throughout the hall. “It’s none of your damn business what happened with Reese after the Formal. Or Candice either, for that matter. The next person I hear talk shit about either of my friends, I will personally kick”—

“Titus, that’s enough.” Mr. Gustin came over and stood next to me. He turned to the rest of the students. “All rumors will stop. Immediately. The events that happened over the weekend are no one’s business. The next student I hear talking about it, will be suspended.” He looked around to everyone. “Any questions?”

Most everyone mumbled no or shook their heads, Josh was the exception. “Since I was involved, that means I can talk about it all I want.” He laughed. The ass laughed. I lunged forward, ready to punch his damn face again, when Mr. Gustin clasped my shoulder and steered me toward his office.  Mr. Gustin opened his door and motioned for me to go in.

~ About The Author ~

I'm a wife and mother of four. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. I use to write fairy tales when I was in grade school, but now I love writing about those tough high school years and how one decision can change the course of your life. Friendships, first loves and over coming the odds all interest me.

Three years ago, I decided life was too short to waste my stories by letting them collect dust on my shelves. I researched querying, took a few writing workshops and wrote the whole time. I first ventured away from what I normally wrote and tried a Paranormal Romance. That novel is tucked safely away. A year ago I chose to go back to my roots and write what I love - friendships, love and choices - how speaking out can save a life, maybe yours or a friends.

I talked to other authors and made wonderful friends. That's when I learned about self-publishing. I'm glad I followed through. I was so nervous to hit publish, but now I am grateful for the encouragement. It was the best decision I've ever made.
I'm usually in front of my laptop. When I'm not writing I am either trying to catch up on a weeks worth of laundry or on Facebook. I am a huge procrastinator. Usually close to a deadline, you can find me actually cleaning house just so I don't have to hit send. I think sending my books out to betas and my editor is the second scariest thing in the world. I love Rockstars and PB&J sandwiches. (Not the healthiest I know but it’s the fastest and it tastes good.)

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Only For You by Genna Rulon

~ Synopsis ~

“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent.  It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.

When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded by her best friend to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, an explosive relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant.  The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

• This story is appropriate for readers 18+
• Though Only For You is a part of the For You Series, the book can be read as a stand-alone.

~ Our Review ~
5 Star Review by Heather

Holy moly this book was awesome. This book had twists and turns that I wasn't expecting.  It will have you sitting on the edge of your seats wondering what is going to happen, laughing out loud and even bring tears to your eyes.

Everleigh is trying to get through these last few months of college.  With all the attacks happening on campus it is scary and has all the girls on high alert.  She doesn't want to transfer, because it will set her back a year.  So her best friend, Sam, and her decide to take self-defense classes that the college is offering for free.  Everleigh is extremely attracted to the instructor Hunter, even though he embarrassed her in front of the whole class the first day. Can she get over him being mean and risk a relationship with him?

Hunter teaches the self-defense class and wants all the woman there to take it serious.  The attacks are brutal and shouldn't be taken lightly. He starts to fall for Everleigh, but knows he can't be in a committed relationship with her at this time so he tries to keep her in the friend only zone.  Can he have her as a friend and not a lover?  Or will he lose her for good?

OMG this book is a MUST read.  I love how this has a lot of suspense and mystery thrown into the romance.  It takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride and has you feeling the characters.  I love when an author can pull these emotions out of me.  Well done on your debut novel Genna Rulon!! I cannot wait for Sam's heartbreaking story. I really need to see her get an HEA!!!!!

~ Excerpt ~

As I approached, Hunter rose to greet me, gallantly appropriating my tray to place it on the table.  He dramatically pulled out my chair and assisted me as I sat.  I appreciated gentility as much as the next girl, but the whole scene struck me as abnormal.
“Care to tell me what that was about?” I distrustfully queried.
“I was merely practicing proper etiquette.”  The twinkle in his eyes belied his innocent excuse.
“You were trying to call attention to our matching faux pas, weren’t you?”
“I will neither confirm nor deny.”
“Ass,” I muttered beneath my breath.
“That is the second time you have called me an asshole,” Hunter said sternly.
“I have never called you an asshole—to your face—I simply left a trail of breadcrumbs from which you could deduce my meaning.”
“Ah ha.  You finally admit that our song is ‘Sweet As Hole’.”
“I will neither confirm nor deny,” I said, mocking his earlier statement.
“It was exceptionally ingenious of you.”
“I know, right?”
I caught his smile and realized my mistake.  He had tricked me, and I confessed the song I had insulted him with.
“Dammit, Hunter.  How do you always outmaneuver me?  They should have you interrogate suspected terrorists.  You would trick them into revealing their evil plot every time.”
“Nah, terrorism isn’t my specialty.”  He winked before suddenly whistling, “That is some lunch you have there.”
“I’m as hungry as the bear I just spent the last hour pretending to be.  A salad was not going to tame my ravenous need.  Besides, who am I trying to impress?”
“Not me, that’s for sure,” he answered quickly with synthetic sorrow.
“Here I thought you were a martial arts instructor.  Are you moonlighting as a comedian?”
“Martial arts is my moonlighting gig,” he paused as if weighing his words.  “Where is Sam?”
“I’m not sure.  She planned to join us.”  I searched the dining room and saw her at the cashier with Robbie beside her.  “There she is, her new guy Robbie is with her.  Don’t ruin it for her by—just try not to be yourself for a little while.”
“You are a cruel woman, Everleigh.”

~ Character Spotlights ~

People have been asking me left and right if I have a dream cast for Only For You. I am not sure about a dream cast, as that would require me to consider acting abilities and such details way beyond my scope of knowledge, but I can give you visuals—who doesn’t love visuals?

It was tough to find pictures that match the images in my mind, because the character's, while fictional, are vividly real in my head.  I am going on the aesthetics in these specific pictures, because the same people in different photographs may not fit the picture in my head at all.

~ About Everleigh Carsen ~
Ev is very much the girl next door. She is very pretty, but not over-the-top sexy or seductive.  She would stand out in a crowd, but not necessarily be the most traditionally beautiful woman in the room. It’s Ev’s mouthy sarcasm that always guarantees she is noticed regardless of who else is nearby. Her quick wit is her trademark and she has earned her reputation for sassy and fun. Ev is a ‘tell it like it is’ girl.

~ Everleigh’s life lesson in Only For You ~
Responsibility. One of the defining aspects of adulthood is responsibility. Ev’s story is about her journey as a new adult fully into adulthood. She must learn to take responsibility for her own actions and words, as well as those she loves. She also must take responsibility for her own happiness by communicating her wants and needs, setting boundaries, letting go of what is not right for her, and embracing her chance at happiness.

~ About Hunter Charles ~

Hunter is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. He can make a woman stop dead in her tracks and take notice. Let me tell you, his abs (in my mind)… TO. DIE. FOR. More than just gorgeous, he is intelligent, funny, honest, and disciplined. If I had to chose one word to describe Hunter it would be honorable. That is the underlining character trait that influences his choices and actions throughout the story.

~ Hunter’s life lesson in Only For You ~

Honor. Doing the right thing is often the hardest choice one must make. Sacrificing your own wants to make honorable decisions can come at a high price, but in the end, we are defined by our actions and choices when right isn’t easy.

~ About Samantha Whitney ~

Sam is the girl everyone wants as a best friend. She is hysterical, open (perhaps too open at times), loving, generous, determined, and real. Despite the fact that she is comfortable in who she is we see quick glimpse of self-doubt . Where Everleigh is all bite and fight, Sam is more empathetic beneath her humor. The looks for the good in those around her and is trusting. In may ways she is more insightful than Ev because she doesn’t let her assumptions blind her to the truth.

~ Sam’s life lesson in Only For You ~

Life isn’t fair. Sam learns the hardest lessons in this book and is still learning how to process and deal with these tough realities. Being a good person does not prevent bad things from happening. Being a good friend does not prevent betrayal. Making the right decisions does not guarantee a favorable outcome. Loving fully does not ensure equal love in return. These are difficult truths we all have to face, though we rarely want to. The question remains, now that Sam has learned these lessons, how will it shape and define the person she becomes.

~ About Griffin Evensen ~

Griff is the man I want my boys to grow up to be (well, maybe one can grow up to be a Hunter and the other a Griffin, LOL). Griff is strong, caring, fierce, and intelligent. He was/is one of my favorite characters to write because you never know what is going on in his mind, unless he chooses to tell you, which he does…sometimes. He isn’t manipulative, but he will orchestrate an opportunity to support his friends when they need him. His humor is the most subtle of the group, but it is there mixed in with his sage advice.

FYI, Griffin is by far the hardest for me to find a picture for; this was the closest I came, but it’s still the least right.

~ Griffin’s life lesson in Only For You ~

Patience and consistency! With ourselves, with others, with circumstances beyond our control…life is an exercise in patience. At times it may feel that those around us are getting what we so desperately want, and we must choose to support and share in their joy (or in Griffin’s case, be an integral part in facilitating that joy) or become bitter and jaded. It takes patience to wait for your turn or the right time to have your own dreams fulfilled.

~ About Robbie ~

Robbie is…well, I’ll let you read about Robbie and make your own judgments, but this is a very good representation of what he looks like in my imagination.

For the first time somebody seemed worth the risk. Will Ian jump and let fate wait for him at the bottom? Hoping that it can somehow save him...hoping that Grace can somehow save him.

I don't think Grace is like most girls.
Maybe that's the thing that I can't put my finger on.
Maybe for the first time, I've met a girl that's unlike
anyone that I've ever known.

Grace, a single mother and owner of a Nashville recording company, met Ian Paul, a recent college grad and her new employee. The moment he entered her world, it turned upside down. She knew better than anyone that a relationship with Ian would never work. He was never supposed to fit into her life, and she was never supposed to show up in his. But what happened between them was something more than either of them ever anticipated. Grace was unprepared for how bad it would hurt when they were faced with something far more unexpected.

He stole the rest of my heart tonight. I
know that no matter what happens tomorrow, or days from
now, I’ll never want it back.
I could never give it to someone else.

I whip my car into the station and see one of the attendants standing next to the pumps waiting.

I roll down my window and watch him approach.

Just as he gets there, my cell phone rings. I dig the money out of my wallet and turn to him,

Twenty…premium, please.”

I lift my phone to my ear just as I catch a glimpse of the attendant walking away.

“Hey heart breaker, you there?” Nina chimes.

“Yeah, I’m here. What’s up?” In my rear view mirror, I try to get another look at this guy.  He's

tall and perfectly built with short, dark hair.

He's gorgeous. I get lost in that until Nina asks, “You at The Quickie?

“Um…yeah. Why?”

“Is Weed there?”

“Weed?”

“You know, that young college guy that works there weeknights.”

Weed? College guy? I'm not sure who she's talking about until she clarifies with the only way

you can truly describe this man. “You know the guy with the handle bar mustache that wears

the Chicago Bulls jersey all the time.”

“Nina, his name is Reed.”

“To you he’s Reed, to me, his customer, he’s known as Weed.”

“I don’t see Weed-Reed. It’s some new guy.”

“Does he have a mustache? Do you know what he sells?”

“From the looks of him he could sell me anything and I’d buy it.” I look in my side mirror to

sneak another glance at green eyes but I pull away quickly when I see him staring back at me.

“That hot?” she asks.

“Yeah. That hot.”

“I gotta see this for myself.”

Silence

“Nina? Hello?”

Next thing I know, I hear the sound of a moped horn and Nina is pulling up next to me.

“What are doing?” I yell out my window at her.

She takes off her turtle shell helmet and smiles over at me, “We are on a dick-free vow

remember? If I can't get any I'll be damned if I'm going to sit by and let you get ya freak on with

some gas attendant,” she hisses. “Oh and I need gas. I had to Flintstone it the last mile here.”

I pull over to the side parking area where I slump down into my seat from embarrassment. I

watch in horror as she practically picks up her moped and settles it next to the attendant. The

look on his face is priceless.

I hear the conversation start, “What’s your name,” she asks. Her voice lowers and I know from

here on out it's going to be a shameless flirt session.

He replies with a deep southern accent, “Ian.”

“Well hello there.” She pauses, “Do you know Weed?”

I've yet to figure out her obsession with this guy. She talks about him constantly.

Ian laughs and shakes his head as Nina crawls off her moped and pulls off her seat, “Put five

regular in it and please be careful putting your nozzle in my small tank. I don’t like drippage,”

she declares.

I see Ian double over laughing. He's a good sport because I hear him say, “How’s this?” As he

slowly places the nozzle in her gas tank.

She puts her hand on his back, “You’re really good at this. How long have you been pumping?”

A slow smile crosses his face, “Actually I don’t work here.”

Well, that's embarrassing. Why the hell was he standing next to the pumps if he doesn't work

here?

“And just where do you work?” Nina prods.

“Willow Tree Records.” It's like he’s speaking in slow motion and I see an evil grin spreading

across Nina's face.

We just let one of my employees pump our gas.
