Blog Tour and Giveaway: Finding Us by Harper Bentley

~ Synopsis ~

Jag Jensen and Ellen Love had been best friends their whole lives until he turned thirteen and started noticing girls his own age, but that didn’t mean he stopped watching out for eleven-year-old Ellen. By his senior year in high school, baseball had taken the front seat in his life, with a scholarship to college and a pro career looming on the horizon, when sophomore Ellen caught his attention and they struck up their friendship again. Although Ellen wanted more, Jag didn’t want to drag her into what he knew would be a crazy life, but love has a way of deciding one’s future, and eventually they became a couple. Ellen followed him to California as he began his pro career, but his wild and hectic lifestyle screwed everything up.
Now Jag is lost, realizing he’s never been without his best friend in his life. Learning to live without Ellen doesn’t settle well with him, so while trying to remain at the top of his career, he also wants to get his girl back, which proves to be more difficult than he thought it’d be. Will Ellen give him another chance or does that sort of thing only happen in the sappy romance novels she always used to read? Jag hopes she’s willing to try again as he puts his heart on the line for the woman he knows will always be his forever and a day.

~ Review ~
4 Stars by Guest Reviewer Jessica

Finding Us is the second book in Harper Bentley’s True Love series and picks up right where the first book, Discovering Us, left off. Discovering Us is told from Ellen’s viewpoint and Finding Us is Jag’s point of view. I really enjoyed the first book and after that massive cliffhanger, couldn’t wait to see what would happen with Ellen and Jag next. I needed things to be ok with them. Jag had f****ed up big time and I was ready to see the man grovel and get his woman back. Did that happen? Well, yes and no.
Jag clearly was desperate to smooth things over with Ellen but where I thought he should be kissing Ellen’s ass, he alternated between mid-level groveling and getting pissed off at Ellen and just about everyone else in his life. Part of me loves Jag and his alpha ways but I didn’t think he owned his role in their breakup as much as he should. In my opinion, Jag had been too willing to go along with whatever his sleazy manager Dirk wanted him to do and had not made enough effort to distance himself from bitchy Alessandra.
I have to say, I loved El even more in Finding Us. She really makes Jag work to get their relationship back, as he damn well should have. Meanwhile, El throws herself into school and making a career for herself. She is no pushover, for sure.
Ellen eventually does decide to give Jag another chance, but the path continues to be bumpy for them. Dirk is still pulling the strings on Jag’s career and Alessandra (who I just wanted to crawl through my Kindle and punch) and the steamy mermaid commercials are still in the picture. I just didn’t get Jag and his actions at times. When he sees Alessandra through the peephole on his door, why does he insist on answering it every time, knowing how toxic she is? Is it any wonder El gets pissed at him? I love a male’s POV, but at times I felt somewhat disconnected from Jag. When he flashes back to the very beginning of his relationship with El and certain situations (the prom being one of him), he just didn’t seem nearly as emotionally vested as I thought him to be from Ellen’s point of view. It was frustrating to me.
As much of an ass as Jag can be (a smokin’ hot ass, but an ass nonetheless), I still believe that he and El belong together. There is so much potential for him to really mature and do the right thing as far as their future is concerned. I’m cautiously rooting him on! Finding Us also ends on a cliffhanger and I will be picking up the next book in the series as soon as it is released!
