~ Excerpt ~

“Alright.” He raised his brow as he walked over to the nightstand, writing something on the notepad. “Here’s my cell number, call me if you need anything. I only live about ten minutes away. Seriously, if you need anything, just use the motel phone.”I took the ripped piece of paper he handed me. “Thanks.” I knew I needed it so I could talk to him about my car, but that’s as far as it would go.“I mean it, anything,” he said as he walked to the door, resting his hand against the frame. “Can I get you something before I leave? Dinner?”

“No, I’m not hungry at all, but thanks for offering. I think I’m ready to get some sleep,” I admitted.

“I’ll keep you posted about your car,” he said.

“Thanks,” I said, thankful that I would get to see him again, but feeling like a mixed up basket case for not trusting him. I was a freaking mess.

“Goodnight Cassandra,” he said quietly before closing the door and walking away.

Yeah, right. Goodnight in this place was going to be hard to come by. I locked the door after he left and walked over to the bed. I drew the covers back and found exactly what I’d pictured… Stains. Gross. I pulled the covers back over the bed and decided to sleep with a towel over me instead. I walked into the filthy bathroom, quickly grabbed a towel, and ran back to the room like a scared child. I put on a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt and was ready to get some rest. It had been an unusually long day between the long drive, the accident, and the hospital. Too exhausted for continued thinking, I let my brain off the hook and laid down on the hard mattress. As I pulled the towel over my body, I noticed my feet were going to be hanging out all night. Great.

I gently laid my sore head back onto the pillow and blinked my eyes a few times. I was right. Sweet dreams were extremely hard to come by in this place, but I tried. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

Based on the way I felt the next morning, I’d gotten only a few hours of sleep at the most. Between the noises, the creaks, and the foul smell, I didn’t know which was worse. That was, by far, the worst night’s sleep I’ve ever had. The morning sun shone brightly through the yellowed curtains, and I decided to give up on trying to get any more sleep.

I ripped the towel off of me and was about to put my feet on the floor and there it was. Staring back at me as if I were invading his turf was an over sized, nasty, grey rat. “OH MY GOD!” I screamed as I jumped up and stood on the bed, unsure of what to do if he were to start climbing up. I let out another loud scream as it raised itself up with its beady little eyes staring, making it scurry off under the bed. This was even worse; now I couldn’t see the damn thing.

I jumped off the bed and collected my belongings faster than I even realized I could. I threw on a jacket before making a mad dash for the door, slamming it behind me. “Holy shit, that was gross,” I said breathlessly. I took a moment to compose myself, and to think about what to do next. I was not going back into that room. That was for certain.

“Are you looking for a place to stay yet?” I heard his familiar voice from afar. I peeked over the railing, and there he was standing with his arms crossed, wearing a sexy grin, faded jeans, and a tight white tee.

About INDISCRETION: Volume Four

The image was seared into my mind. Imprinted. Emblazoned. Etched. Did I blame him for what I saw? Or myself, for allowing him the ability to cause the pain coursing through me? Betrayal was a weapon that cut to the core—the ‘what ifs’ the infection that festered in the wound. I’d thought we’d had roadblocks thrown in front of us before. Damn. Those would have seemed like mere speed bumps if I’d seen what was coming… Little did I know that what was headed our way would prove to be the biggest test of all—putting impossible choices in front of us. None of which seemed to lead to a happy ending in which the two of us were together.

~ Review ~
4.5 Stars

This was a great follow up to Bittersweet Revenge.  I loved Jenna and Rex.  Mimi irritated me a little, but that's what best friends do!!

Jenna has been trying to move on after being devastated by Rex.  She has been through a lot the last couple years.  But she doesn't want to welcome anyone new into her life, but Mimi thinks since they are away at college now that she needs to open up and let people in.  Get over Rex or forgive him.  Since he goes to the same school it would be easy to forgive him.  Can she become friends with him again?

Rex is willing to do anything to prove to Jenna how sorry he is.  He knows he messed up, but he can't take it back.  He wants to make up for it though, but can he get Jenna to forgive him?  Will he prove that he is worthy of Jenna's heart?

This is a great conclusion to Jenna and Rex.  Though I'm sure we will continue to see them in Mimi and Corey's book and Ryder's book also!!!  Mimi and Corey have a lot of issues so it will be interesting to see how J.L. makes me fall for Corey!!

~ Excerpt ~

Just as I’m about to get up to go to the bathroom a ‘hot as hell’ man comes sauntering up to the table. His head is held high, he’s wearing relaxed fitted jeans, and a dark shirt, with a leather jacket. Just as the light from the strobes shine onto to his face, I gasp backing up into the booth. He is the last man I want to see right now.
Jenna.” His voice is deep and honeyed just as I remember it. There are no hard feelings between us now, but it doesn’t mean that being around him doesn’t remind me of my ex. Hell, that’s his twin it’s like looking at a clone of him.
Ryder.” I say hesitant. It’s impossible not to have some type of affect when he talks to you. His voice makes you want to melt into him, to give into every single demand he has, and he's a very demanding man.
Long time no see beautiful.” I find myself leaning into him, but pull away immediately afraid he may have noticed. He’s right, long time no see. It’s been four months since I last talked to him. I tried my best to ignore him but he slowly got under my skin and we created this friendship that was easy going. He knew what it was like to be me, and that was it.
Don’t call me beautiful, and sorry I’ve been busy. I didn’t even know you were living in this area.” I was shocked by the courage in my voice. Since Rex, I’ve been able to speak my mind and talk for myself more. Instead of being Mimi’s shadow I create my own.
A smile creeps onto his face, tingles go down my spine. The kind I use to get when Rex smiled at me. Yup, there’s still an effect there.
But you are beautiful so I’m just speaking the truth. As for why I’m here, I’m sure you already know that. As you know, where Rex goes I go. So now, I will grant you my wonderful presence.” Great. The arrogance oozes from him reminding me of why I use to consider him an asshole.
That’s great and all, but you and your brother can just go back to wherever it is you came from. No assistance from any of the Winchester’s is needed here.” I say as nice as humanly possible. Instead of taking a sip of drink, I down the rest of the glass unable to deal with this situation anymore without more alcohol in my system.
I get up to get another drink, but am pushed back into the booth. I look up angrily at Ryder as he smiles down at me. “Allow me to get it for you, I'll be right back.” I ease back allowing him to do this one thing for me. What could go wrong it’s just a drink?
In no time he’s back with my drink, and a drink of his own. He slides into the booth, just as I take my first sip of the beverage.
Are you even old enough to be drinking?” He asks. I look up at him astonished by his question.
Are you?” An arrogant-assholish smile mares his face and I feel myself getting that urge to punch him again.
No, but no one ever worries about whether I’m old enough to drink.” He says, taking a gulp from his beer bottle. I glare at him over the top of my drink, shaming Mimi for leaving me to this.
Then why exactly do you give a fuck?” I ask eyebrow raised, as my blood pressure goes through the roof. For some unknown reason, when people ask me stupid questions I feel the urge to act out violently.
Ahh. Like I’ve told you many a time, you’re not like the rest.” At this point I realize I’m going to need a whole lot more Vodka to get through the night.
So I’ve heard. But you don’t know me Ryder, so stop trying to lay the moves on me, or whatever it is you're doing here. I don’t care. I’m not buying it, so go sell your shit elsewhere.” I down the rest of the drink much faster than needed.
The woozy feeling of the alcohol settling is starting to affect me. The burn of the liquor makes my eyes water and my nose burn, but I push through, waiting for the numbness to take hold. Wow, two drinks and I’m feeling tipsy. What a total lightweight.
Whoa Nelly, slow down.” He says grabbing at my glass. I bat his hand away, wanting to get every last drop.
I’m not a horse.” I say, giving him the glass and wiping my mouth with the back of my hand. Really unladylike, but zero fucks are to be given at this time.
I didn’t call you a horse, I told you to slow down.” He says as if he's annoyed. What the hell, no one asked him to babysit, hell I don’t need a babysitter. Suddenly, I’m angry, really angry.
Yes you did, you called me Nelly, which is a horse’s name, I think. Also what are you really doing here? Because I don’t need a babysitter, I can take care of myself just fine.” I say, none too ashamed that some of my words slurred together. Where the hell is Mimi? I ignore Ryder and his glares as I look over the crowd below us. The dance floor is just too full for me to spot Mimi’s sequin top. Either that or things are starting to get blurry.
I need another drink, now you can either go and get me one or I’m going and getting one.” His eyes bore into mine, and more and more he starts to look like Rex and less and less like Ryder. I catch myself leaning in over the table. His eyes look glassy, and I wonder if he’s drank more since coming to this table.
I’m going to go and get you another drink.” He says, our noses almost touching. His eyes meet mine, and I see the need there. It’s startling. He pulls back just as I lean in more, I would say I was leaning into smell him but then I would be lying. Maybe smell his face.
He leaves me to wallow in my sorrows. Like how I’m nineteen with problems of the average twenty eight year old. Maybe I should create a knitting club, or become the local hoarding cat lady.
Here’s your drink sweetheart.” Ryder says sliding into the seat next to me. Or at least I think its Ryder, I can’t tell. Could be Rex for all I know. The alcohol is affecting me in a number of ways.
Thanks.” I reply grabbing it and ignoring his presence. Questions are itching to breaking through, and with the effects of the drinking I just can’t hold em back any longer.
You know, I trusted your brother. I cared about him and all he did was rip my heart out. He’s made it not only impossible to move on but he’s made it impossible for me to trust people. Because of him I’m going to forever be the nineteen year old cat hoarding, knitting lady.” I say sulking. He smiles big and wide, and then lets out a deep belly shaking laugh; although his belly doesn’t shake, unless his abs can but… never mind.
You will not forever be the cat hoarding, knitting lady; although you would be a very adorable one.”
I ignore his comment and whisper. “He hurt me Ryder.” I can’t hide the emotions from my voice. Damn you vodka, damn you.
I know he did, but you’re only nineteen you’ll love again. The fact that you're out and about now proves that. Don’t give up hope just yet.” He says as if encouraging me to move on and find someone else. The only problem is I don’t think I want to.

   Chapter One

Lucas leaned his elbows back on the bar and pulled in a full draught of the human pheromones and perfumes swirling in the air. Musky fragrances mixed with sweet sweat, underscored by a tangy taste of arousal. And that was just the women. The males were overly scented as well, at least the human ones, as if they didn’t understand the power of their own natural scent. The blue-neon sign outside the nightclub called it The Deviation. Inside, lithe human bodies pulsed to a techno rock beat coming from the live band on the stage. It was a ripe hunting ground for shifters and humans alike. Prey, his inner dark wolf panted, but Lucas backhanded that thought into the recesses of his mind. He may be hunting for a pleasurable companion for the evening, a temporary relief from the ghosts that haunted him, but he wasn’t that kind of predator. Not that there weren’t plenty of those in the room. This was neutral territory. He was rogue now, but even if he had a pack, he wouldn’t make trouble in a closed environment filled with humans like The Deviation. The throng pushed right up to the bar where he stood, leaving not much distinction between those dancing and those watching. Cutout panels behind the band let in beams of purplish light that stabbed through the tight crowd and washed everyone in a deep otherworldly glow. The shifters were indistinguishable from the humans, everyone dressed in the same tailored silk shirts and curve-hugging black dresses that comprised the nighttime uniform of web entrepreneurs and their groupies. Indistinguishable for most. But Lucas recognized a few. Three shifters from the SocialHacks pack were in the thick of the dancing, hands running free over their female companions. His father’s pack allied with the SocialHacks early on, their social media startup pairing well with his father’s internet business development firm. Nearby was a trio from Red Wolf, another company that cultivated the dot-com businesses of Seattle and helped match them with investors. They were his father’s bitter rivals—not only did they skate close to that invisible line shifters didn’t cross, the one that kept the normal human citizenry of Seattle unaware of the wolves in their midst, but they were as ruthless in pack matters as they were in business. Lucas had seen more than one omega from the Red pack end up in a dingy alley missing a few vital organs. Tonight, the Red pack was hanging at the fringes of the crowd, watching. Like Lucas. But that was all they had in common. “How are you doing here, sir?” The soft voice behind him belonged to the female bartender. He could tell by her scent before he turned around: slightly musky with the dampness of the nightclub, but with a light woodsy taste. It wasn’t a perfume, which Lucas had an instant appreciation for. He turned and gave her a smile. “I’d like another, please. Vodka, neat.” She wasn’t one of the celebrity bartenders who drew patrons to The Deviation, but he wasn’t the type to drink the latest fad cocktail, either. In fact, he rarely was in a club long enough to finish a drink before a companion for the night found him. And having full command of his faculties, especially with a human, was key to leaving her satisfied, not sliced to ribbons. The bartender gave him a fleeting smile, then dropped her brilliant blue-eyed gaze, brushed her long black hair out of her way, and reached under the bar for a bottle. He hadn’t been to The Deviation in a while, but he guessed she was new—to the club, maybe to bartending as well. Her all-black uniform—slim dress pants and collared shirt—had turned purple with the hazy light from the stage, but it fit her feminine curves in an understated way. He appreciated that, too, but bartenders weren’t good prospects, not least because they might remember him the next time he came hunting. She poured his drink, and he noticed her hand quiver. The liquid sloshed but not enough to escape the shot glass. He frowned and looked up, but she was already moving on, down the bar, to another customer. She gave that guy the same fleeting smile, but Lucas could see something wrong in it now. Something off. Her lips were slightly parted, her breaths shallow. She was panting, and not in a good way. The girl rushed through a bourbon-and-seven for her customer, then shuffled to the end of the bar, where her fellow bartender, a male, stood flirting with one of the female patrons. The girl had a quick, whispered exchange that Lucas couldn’t hear over the pounding music, and then she slipped around the end of the counter and into the crowd. Lucas straightened, looking for her over the sea of bobbing heads and waving hands. She was a tiny black-haired rabbit weaving through the weeds, tall enough to poke above them when she wasn’t ducking under drinks held high or flailing arms. He wasn’t sure why, but he couldn’t stop tracking her. He left his drink, untouched, and slid along the bar, keeping her in his sights. She broke free of the crowd near the back wall, where blue neon signs bulged with the letters of the club and the outlines of spilt electric drinks. It was the same wall where the three Red pack members lounged. The girl threw open a door which had been invisible a moment before, probably because it fit seamlessly into the black matte of the wall. Then she was gone, the door slowly easing closed behind her. The Reds had watched her all the way out. Lucas froze at the edge of the crowd, his unblinking stare trained on their bent heads and moving lips. Not my territory, he told his snarling inner wolf. Not my pack. But he didn’t look away.

When the floor fell out from underneath her perfect childhood, it shattered her ability to trust. The one man in her life who was genetically programmed to love her left her. Since then, she’s allowed men into her bed and even into her life, but never into her heart.

Until him.

Jamison Henley has never wanted a woman for longer than it takes him to make a guitar. He’s content living his life and loving only three things: making guitars, cooking great food, and Martha, his black pit bull. He never chases women, and he’s never had to.

Until her.

One night together changes everything. There’s no going back to the way it was before.

She doesn’t want to want him, but she does.

He knows he wants her, but he can’t have her.

Will Montgomery take the leap of faith in choosing Henley? Or will her fear cripple their chance at a happily ever after?

~ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ~

I’m twenty four years old. I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside of Vancouver, Canada. I grew up riding horses, shooting guns and riding in trucks. I’ve been married to my handsome redneck husband for a year and we are parents to our chocolate fur baby, Bear. No kiddo’s yet! I am completely and utterly obsessed with country music, you will constantly find me stalking iTunes. If you don’t find me on iTunes, you’ll find me on Netflix because I am a self proclaimed movie junkie. Yes, that means that I quote them constantly in daily conversation and my characters do too! You couldn’t keep me away from a good action movie if you tried. I’m also a planning nut. I love to plan parties, events, trips – you name it! I don’t know if that’s considered a real hobby, but it is for me.

We were fortunate enough to travel a lot as a family growing up, and I think that helped spark my love of reading. I’m half Viking, my mom is Danish, and her entire side of the family still lives in Denmark. We’d visit them almost once a year, every year and it’s a nine hour flight. That’s a lot of uninterrupted time to read (or in my parent’s case, entertain four children – Yikes!). Somewhere along the way my love of reading, became a love of writing. I wrote short stories when I was younger, and although I majored in Business Management at college, I took as many English electives I could get my hands on.

During the day I work at my family construction company wearing a variety of different hats and at night, I write! I had never thought about writing books before, but after a few suggestions that I should try, I decided to give it a go. I loved it instantly! Having always been a creative person, it felt amazing to harness all that energy and use it to tell a story. Now, quite frankly it’s all I can think about, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m grateful to have developed my love of reading into a passion for writing. You’ll be seeing many more books from me in the future!

Xo.
