~ Synopsis ~

Kidnapped. Taken to a private island.

I never thought this could happen to me. I never imagined one chance meeting on the eve of my eighteenth birthday could change my life so completely. Now I belong to him. To Julian. To a man who is as ruthless as he is beautiful – a man whose touch makes me burn. A man whose tenderness I find more devastating than his cruelty. My captor is an enigma. I don’t know who he is or why he took me. There is a darkness inside him – a darkness that scares me even as it draws me in. My name is Nora Leston, and this is my story. WARNING: This is NOT a traditional romance. It contains disturbing subject matter, including themes of questionable consent and Stockholm Syndrome, as well as graphic sexual content. This is a work of fiction intended for a mature, 18+ audience only. The author neither endorses nor condones this type of behavior.

~ Excerpt ~

It’s evening now. With every minute that passes, I’m starting to get more and more anxious at the thought of seeing my captor again. The novel that I’ve been reading can no longer hold my interest. I put it down and walk in circles around the room. I am dressed in the clothes Beth had given me earlier. It’s not what I would’ve chosen to wear, but it’s better than a bathrobe. A sexy pair of white lacy panties and a matching bra for underwear. A pretty blue sundress that buttons in the front. Everything fits me suspiciously well. Has he been stalking me for a while? Learning everything about me, including my clothing size? The thought makes me sick. I am trying not to think about what’s to come, but it’s impossible. I don’t know why I’m so sure he’ll come to me tonight. It’s possible he has an entire harem of women stashed away on this island, and he visits each one only once a week, like sultans used to do. Yet somehow I know he’ll be here soon. Last night had simply whetted his appetite. I know he’s not done with me, not by a long shot.  Finally, the door opens. He walks in like he owns the place. Which, of course, he does.  I am again struck by his masculine beauty. He could’ve been a model or a movie star, with a face like his. If there was any fairness in the world, he would’ve been short or had some other imperfection to offset that face.  But he doesn’t. His body is tall and muscular, perfectly proportioned. I remember what it feels like to have him inside me, and I feel an unwelcome jolt of arousal. He’s again wearing jeans and a T-shirt. A grey one this time. He seems to favor simple clothing, and he’s smart to do so. His looks don’t need any enhancement.  He smiles at me. It’s his fallen angel smile—dark and seductive at the same time. “Hello, Nora.” I don’t know what to say to him, so I blurt out the first thing that pops into my head. “How long are you going to keep me here?” He cocks his head slightly to the side. “Here in the room? Or on the island?” “Both.” “Beth will show you around tomorrow, take you swimming, if you’d like,” he says, approaching me. “You won’t be locked in, unless you do something foolish.” “Such as?” I ask, my heart pounding in my chest as he stops next to me and lifts his hand to stroke my hair. “Trying to harm Beth or yourself.” His voice is soft, his gaze hypnotic as he looks down on me. The way he’s touching my hair is oddly relaxing. I blink, trying to break his spell. “And what about on the island? How long will you keep me here?” His hand caresses my face now, curves around my cheek. I catch myself leaning into his touch, like a cat getting petted, and I immediately stiffen. His lips curve into a knowing smile. The bastard knows the effect he has on me. “A long time, I hope,” he says. For some reason, I’m not surprised. He wouldn’t have bothered bringing me all the way here if he just wanted to fuck me a few times. I’m terrified, but I’m not surprised. I gather my courage and ask the next logical question. “Why did you kidnap me?” The smile leaves his face. He doesn’t answer, just looks at me with an inscrutable blue gaze. I begin to shake. “Are you going to kill me?”  “No, Nora, I won’t kill you.” His denial reassures me, although he could obviously be lying. “Are you going to sell me?” I can barely get the words out. “Like to be a prostitute or something?” “No,” he says softly. “Never. You’re mine and mine alone.”  I feel a tiny bit calmer, but there is one more thing I have to know. “Are you going to hurt me?” For a moment, he doesn’t answer again. Something dark briefly flashes in his eyes. “Probably,” he says quietly.  And then he leans down and kisses me, his warm lips soft and gentle on mine.  For a second, I stand there frozen, unresponsive. I believe him. I know he’s telling the truth when he says he’ll hurt me. There’s something in him that scares me—that has scared me from the very beginning.  He’s nothing like the boys I’ve gone on dates with. He’s capable of anything.  And I’m completely at his mercy. I think about trying to fight him again. That would be the normal thing to do in my situation. The brave thing to do. And yet I don’t do it. I can feel the darkness inside him. There’s something wrong with him. His outer beauty hides something monstrous underneath. I don’t want to unleash that darkness. I don’t know what will happen if I do. So I stand still in his embrace and let him kiss me. And when he picks me up again and takes me to bed, I don’t try to resist in any way. Instead, I close my eyes and give in to the sensations.

~ Synopsis ~

"Love is an emotion that will destroy you if you let it. It can ruin your life or create a new one. Jealousy isn't much different."
Jennifer Downs treads in dangerous waters. Finnley Felton is unaware. With the help of Lady Luck, they will make it through.  Or will they?
Texas is nothing compared to Vegas but among the bright lights and busy streets, Jennifer discovers who she is. Her life has changed, and for better or worse, she continues to live like tomorrow will never come.  Sabotage. Hatred. Betrayal. Although love is beautiful and kind, it comes with consequences. Jennifer finds herself fighting. Fighting for her rights, for love, for Finnley, and for her life.  Hearts may be broken.  Lives will change. But the ultimate question remains: can love win all?

~ Excerpt ~

I walked inside and placed my keys on the bar top, and a few minutes later, Finnley entered. I leaned against the kitchen counter and smiled. "You shouldn't f*ck me with your eyes. I've already warned you about that." "I'm pretty sure I can do whatever I want." I walked towards him, unbuttoned his suit jacket, and loosened his tie. "You're not the boss of me anymore." He wrapped my hair around his fingers and tugged my head back to look into his eyes. "I will always be the boss of you, Ms. Downs." I loved it when he called me that. I loved it when he was rough. Lust and love mixed and created a crazy potion of emotions. Finn's lips collided with mine, and the intensity of him forced me to unbutton his pants and scoot them off his hips; then he yanked my hair just a little harder. "I'm not your dildo, Ms. Downs. I've got an appointment at the office in the next thirty minutes. Shouldn't take long. Meet me there in an hour?" "I cannot believe you're denying me." "You'll learn that I do whoever and whatever I want, whenever I want." I crossed my arms and gave him my best 'go to hell' look. What a tease. He buttoned and zipped his pants and then looked at me with a raised eyebrow and pulled me into him. He nibbled on my earlobe, and then whispered, "will you ever stop driving me crazy?" I pulled away from him, looked at his mouth, and then into his green eyes. "Not happening, ever." **Disclaimer: excerpt currently unedited. Copyright Lyra Parish.

~ Excerpt ~

I shook out my hair, put my shoulders back and stood as straight as possible. I wouldn’t let Red intimidate me. When I strutted over to him, his expression left me confused. He’d always been so cold, like a granite statue and yet, I couldn’t read the new side to him.

“Why did you want me to come and what did you mean? Wait … no … shit, what I really wanted to say was that I appreciate you coming to get me.”

“Let’s go have a drink.”

“A drink?”

“Yes, you could use one.”

“Would you stop doing that?” I said, squinting up at him through the outside house light that cascaded around him.

“Doing what? I just offered you a drink,” he said, resting his back against his vehicle and folding his arms in front of him.

“No, you said I needed one. You’re so bossy.”

He laughed and said, “You bring it out in me. I’ll do my best to temper the urge.”

“You have urges?”

“You don’t want to know,” he said, glaring down at me.

“Oh … I,” I stuttered, my nipples flaring at his intent. I crossed my arms over my chest as well.

Grabbing my hand, he pulled me along with him into the house and through the main sitting area. Dreamworld played through the sound system. Cat gave me a questioning look as Red led me into the kitchen. I shrugged my shoulders back to her. He opened the refrigerator, fingered a Mike’s Lemonade and a bottle of Dos Equis, popped the caps and swooped up my hand again in his large palm, leading me out to the back.

I loved all the palms and the large stone deck around the Jacuzzi and pool. His two-story home sat on the intracoastal waterway, allowing him to keep his boat right behind the house.

Two guys I didn’t recognize sat at the wrought iron table by the pool, smoking cigarettes.

“Hey Ray, Charlie, glad you could make it,” Red said, pausing but not releasing my hand.

“Thanks for the invite. She’s a tiny one,” one of the guys said, tilting his head in my direction.

“She makes up for it with a big mouth,” Red said with a smug expression.

I tried to pull my hand out of his grip, but he held on so tight I had to use my free hand to punch him in the shoulder. I would have preferred to punch his jaw but I figured it would hurt me more than him to hit the sharp edge of his face.

His friends chuckled, leaving me even more incensed.

“And he makes up for his Neanderthal size with his small personality or at least that’s what he calls it,” I said, purposefully looking at his pants.

That made his friends fall out in hysterical laughter and I felt rather proud of myself.

“Come on, you,” he said, dragging me back inside and up the stairs to his bedroom.

I had never been in there before. So neat and organized, it could have been a room in an upscale hotel except for the antique furniture on either side of the fireplace and the art on the walls. A chair sat near the entrance to the room, a pair of slacks over the back of it.

“What the hell is going on with you Red?” I said as I finally managed to pull my hand away from his. “You’ve never given me much notice over the years. How long has it been?”

“Five years.”

“I’ve been putting up with your crap for five years? Jesus.” I took the lemonade from his hand and took several swallows.

“Take it easy, Jacqs,” he said, closing the door behind him and leaning back against it.

“Stop telling me what to do, would you?”

“I can’t help myself,” he said with a slight smile.

“Try.” I sat on the edge of the bed, putting plenty of distance between us.

“I didn’t much care for your joke.”

“Your friends rather liked it and you started it. Don’t fuck with me and I won’t fuck with you back.”

“Do you have to talk like that? It’s very unattractive.”

“What the fuck … shit …um heck do you want from me?” I drank more to boost my courage.

“I’m warning you, Jacqs.”

“Warning me? From what? What will you do?”

“Don’t push me.”

“I push your buttons without even trying.”

“I’m well aware of that.”

“Are you going to answer me?” I asked. “Because, if not, I’ll just head home.” I stood, finished off my drink and took a step toward the door that he blocked with his massive frame.

He crossed the distance between us, swiped the drink out of my hand, placing both bottles on the corner of his dresser. Before I had a chance to fight or protest he lifted me under my arms, off my feet, and placed my back against the wall. He groaned as if it pained him and then he descended on my mouth with his.

I tried to push him off me, but he remained hard as steel and I finally gave over to the incredible sensations he stirred within me. I took his large face in my little hands and that caused him to groan in pleasure, deepening the kiss. As I wrapped my legs around his bulky frame, he held me closer and carried me over to the antique chair by the door. He sat down with me on his lap, and we just stared at each other for a moment.

Afraid of breaking the spell that I knew would end once reality set in, I sat, waiting. He ran his hands up my neck, followed by his mouth, kissing and nibbling. Chills fluttered down my spine and I moaned, “Oh, Red.” Wetness pooled in my panties and I wanted him to take me. I wanted to know what his cock looked like, tasted like. I didn’t care if we ever spoke again afterwards, or if my motivations stemmed from getting back at Bond. Red had sparked an intense need that required fulfillment and I wanted him to take me.

Running my hands through his short cropped red hair, I pulled his mouth back to mine and he took control. Clutching my wrists, he held them with one hand behind my back, and bit his way down my chest. He unbuttoned the rest of my blouse, pushing the silk down off my shoulders, exposing my breast and hard nipples to the air.

“No bra? You’re naughtier than I imagined.”

“You’ve thought about me?”

“Incessantly. Keep your arms behind you,” he said as ran his hands under my breasts and lowered his mouth. “I had no idea.”

“What?”

“For such a tiny woman, you have rather large nipples.”

I scrunched my face, not sure if he liked what he saw.

“No need for the funny face, I love them.” He sucked on my right nipple and I closed my eyes in pleasure. His big hands kneaded my flesh and pulled on my left nipple.

“Ohhhh,” I called out, arching into his caresses.

“Shhhh,” he said, “I think I heard something.”

“Don’t stop,” I pleaded.

“Stay the night.”

“That’ll go over well with Bond, for sure.”

“Did you have to mention him?”

The bubble had burst and in my embarrassment, I scurried off his lap and buttoned up my shirt. I glanced in the mirror on the dresser and smoothed out my hair.

He pushed into me from behind, grasping my breast over my shirt. He nipped my earlobe and said, “I’m not done with you, but I need to check on the party below.” He clutched the nape of my neck, turning my head toward him and kissing me one last time. “I’ll see you downstairs.”

~ Our Review ~
4.5 Stars by Guest Reviewer Jessica

I adored this book! It was sweet, steamy, sexy fun, with a generous helping of hot, bad-boy rapper! What more could a reader want?! Collaboration came to me at just the right time. My last few reads had been either very heavy and angsty or else complete duds. I was in desperate need of a book I could lose myself in from the first page and enjoy right through to the end. This book fit the bill perfectly!

Trace and Taryn are two wildly successful musicians at the pinnacle of their careers: he as a man whore, bad boy rapper and she as America’s reigning country pop princess. Their worlds couldn’t be farther apart. But when their record label forces them to collaborate on a duet, sparks unexpectedly fly. Right from the start, Taryn and Trace’s mutual attraction felt real and natural. Neither necessarily tried to fight it but they were both skeptical about how a relationship between them could possibly work given their lifestyles and differences.

I loved how things developed slowly between Taryn and Trace. They met right before each was scheduled to begin touring, so they really got to know each other through texts and phone calls. There was no insta-love and for me, that really added to the strength of the story. And when they finally did get together-phew! Panty melting hotness indeed!!

I adored Taryn and Trace. Although they both projected very specific images to the public, there was so much more to each of them beneath the surface and in their histories. The underlying theme to Collaboration is to not make assumptions based on initial impressions, and the authors (yes, this book is a collaboration as well!) illustrate this beautifully. I truly believed in the love between Taryn and Trace and cheered them on through every obstacle thrown their way.

This book was a quick read for me, only because it killed me to put it down once I started. If not for the pesky issues of sleep and family, I would have finished it in one sitting! The secondary characters (besides Taryn’s evil witch of a mother) added extra dimension to the story and I enjoyed how music was incorporated throughout. And the epilogue? Perfection!

Collaboration was an incredibly enjoyable (and hot!) read, and I highly recommend adding it to your TBR!

~ Review ~
5 Star Review

This is a spin-off to the killer next door trilogy.  I would recommend reading those books first, but you don't have to.  You would understand more if you did though.

Nat is the most closed off person you will meet.  She doesn't open up to anyone.  Not even her friends Kate and Charlie.  She is scared to and has very good reasons to be scared.  Then in walks Mac and starts tearing her walls down and making her feel things she doesn't want too.  Will she fight it and run? Or will she open herself up and risk the heartbreak?

Mac doesn't let a lot of people in.  He is content with his life.  He isn't looking for love, but love was looking for him.  He wanted Nat from the moment her saw her.  He knew she was special and different from all the other girls he usually goes after.  He wants her, but is he strong enough to break through all the walls she has built up around her?

This is am amazing series and I love these characters. I cannot wait to read Charlie and Mitch's story!!  I also can't wait to hear more about Neil and Kate and Nat and Mac!!!
