~ Review ~
4 Stars

I'm going to start off saying that this book wasn't really what I was thinking.  Though I'm not sure how any positive could come out of this book with Dornan being the main character.  I hated him in the Gypsy Brothers books.  But I wanted to read this book and see what it was going to be about and what would happen.

I have to say I really respected Mariana.  Not may people male or female would do what she did to save their family.  She stood up for what she believed and offered herself for her families lives.  But once she is taken she is really wishy washy.  Maybe that is normal.  I've haven't ever experienced what she is going through.  She starts out strong and giving lip to her kidnapper, but she learns really quick that if she continues her sacrifice will all be for nothing.  She never expected Dornan to come storming into her life.  Is he trying to save her?  Or make her feel safe so he can destroy her?   But is there hope for her?  Can she be saved?

Dornan is suppose to be this big, bad, scary man that is evil.  I see it in some places, but he has a soft side.  There is something in him that is save able, but will he be saved or is he damned?  Will he save Mariana?  Or will he lead her to the slaughter house?

I really had a hard time getting into this book.  I'm not sure if reading Gypsy Brothers first tainted me to liking Dornan or not.  Though Dornan is different in this book.  We are beginning to see what caused Dornan to turn dark.  I would recommend everyone read this book and make their own opinions!!

‘You do this a lot?’ I asked abruptly.
He took a step closer. I took a step back. It was timed so well, it was almost as if we were dancing some sort of macabre waltz.
He laughed when we moved in unison.
‘Depends,’ he replied, ‘on what this is.’
‘Pick up pretty girls for your daddy?’ I shot back.
Something passed over his face for a moment and settled in his eyes. Something hard. And then, I blinked, and it was gone again.
‘Sure,’ he said, and his voice had changed somehow. Become more reserved, more guarded. Damn. The only person who’d shown me the tiniest bit of normality, and I had just alienated him. As usual, I was running off at the mouth before I thought about what I was actually saying.

‘None as pretty as you, though,’ he added.

~ Synopsis ~

From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby comes the third romance in the Love Under the Big Sky series, featuring a veteran struggling with PTSD and the one woman who can help him recover—and learn to love again. Jillian thought she was a city girl through and through; the fast cars, high fashion, and glamour—she loves it all. But when her ex tells her he’s having a baby with his new wife (after Jillian struggled for years to get pregnant), she hightails it back to Montana to cry on the shoulder of her best friend, Cara. But in truth, Jillian would rather be comforted by someone else…specifically Zack, Cara’s brother-in-law. Zack is a veteran of the Iraq War who came back to the family ranch to raise his preteen son after the boy’s mother took off. He’s struggling to re-establish a relationship with his son, and warding off the demons of PTSD, which still haunt him. The last thing he needs is bold, brassy Jillian…but why can’t he keep his hands off her?

4 Stars by Margaret

If you're a fan of Kristen Proby you'll definitely want to read this book. She writes strong heroines and alpha males and this one is no different.

In this book we meet Jillian, who is Ty's sister and Cara's best friend from the previous two books, and Zack who is Josh's twin brother. These two hooked up in book 1 and it was never really addressed until this book. They just kind of avoided each other and when they had to be around one another they were always polite to the other.

Jillian lived in LA with her husband and when she has issues trying to get pregnant, the husband decides to cheat on her, thus prompting a divorce and moving back home to Montana where she continues working in the real estate business. She and Ty had a crappy childhood and she is still trying to put the past behind her and live her life.

Zack is home after serving in the Army and is trying to raise his son Seth, who we've also met in the previous books, while helping Josh on the Lazy K Ranch. Seth was abruptly dropped off by his mom and Zack's ex-wife and never heard from again. Both Zack and Seth have suffered tremendously by things Kensie did to them.

I loved the scenes that involved Jillian and Seth. She treats him the way a mother should treat their children. There's a scene where they have a heart to heart talk and it was truly emotional. Seth is able to talk to Jillian in a way he would never be able to talk to his dad and I'm glad Jillian was the one he confided in. Those two shared a special connection.

Both Zack and Jillian have demons from their past and I loved how they each had support from their family and friends to get them through those difficult times. When one of them needed a kick to the behind someone was there delivering it to them. I loved how all the connections (family and friends) were there in this book as the previous books.

I was a little disappointed with the ending. I wanted there to be more in the epilogue like she did with the Seattle series where we get to see the characters years from now...maybe she has something up her sleeve and will give us a novella or another book in the future.

“Okay, plug them in.” I run to the porch and plug in the lights, then run back into the front yard to see them. “Oh, they’re so pretty!” “Thank God they all work,” he says as he tosses the black shoe down to the ground and then moves carefully down to the ladder. “It would be a bitch to have to take them back down.” “I checked them,” I assure him, and when his foot finally lands safely on the snow and he turns to me, I hit him on the arm. “You shouldn’t have done that! You took ten years off my life!” I throw my arms around his torso and squeeze him tightly, then back away. “No, you shouldn’t have been on that ladder. If I catch you on one again, I’ll spank your ass until it glows.” My jaw drops as I gaze up into his frustrated face. For once in my life, I’m speechless. I scowl as I pull myself together and clench my fists. “You wouldn’t dare . . .” “Put yourself in danger again and see if I don’t,” he replies calmly and crosses his arms over his chest. “Did you come here to bully me?” He sighs and pulls his beanie off his head, pushing his fingers through the messy brown strands. I want to sink my fingers in that thick, dark hair. “No. I came because you won’t answer your fucking phone so I can apologize for the other night.” “I don’t want your apology,” I reply and throw the extra lights and staple gun back into the tote and turn away, but he catches my arm and turns me back to him, takes the tote, and sets it down. “I’m going to give it anyway.” His jaw is firm. “I had no right to kiss you like that in the parking lot for everyone to see.” I jerk back, mortified. “You’re apologizing for kissing me?”

4 Stars by Brittany

This story is the continuation of Layla and Blake's story. It wasn't my favorite in the series, however I'm glad I read it. It takes you back to the beginning of Axelle and the fateful night she was conceived and links the past to the present. You will feel the pain Layla went through that night and you will have a better understanding of her choices. This story is another reminder that love is triumphant. Blake, Axelle, and Layla are a team showing that family isn't always blood.

5 Stars by Heather

Omg this book was so amazing.  It took me on an emotional roller coaster ride.  I was happy, sad and sobbing at different parts of this book.  I have never felt such a connection to characters as I did these five.  I honestly felt like they were my best friends.  I am really hoping we get more of these amazing characters because I am not ready to say goodbye to them!

Throughout this book you learn about Laila and how she deals with a lot of crap through high school for being best friends with four boys.  She is strong, independent and very protective of the boys.  She loves fierce and would do anything to take pain and hurt away from the guys.  She tries to be strong knowing that once they graduate that things will change for them all.  They all want to go to different colleges.  Can all the changes keep them close?  Will their friendships suffer from the distance?

This book is an absolute must read!!! One of the best books I have ever read.  The way T.K. has you connecting with these characters is unbelievable.  I did not want to put this book down once I started and now I am sad that it's over.  This book could have been three times longer and I still don't think it would have been enough.  I seriously want to know every detail of all of their lives.  I feel like I have lost my best friends.  This book has definitely left a lasting effect on me!!!

5 Stars by Margaret

First I gotta say this book was totally different from what I was expecting. I haven't read any of TK Rapp's work before but this book may have just changed that. Her writing definitely makes you feel everything the characters are going through and you feel like you are right there with them experiencing everything as they are.

Laila, Braxton, Haden, Cole and Joey are all friends and have been from a very early age when Laila's family moved and have had each other's back ever since. Laila's relationship with each one is different as is their bond to each other. As I was reading this book it took me back to my high school days and stirred up my own memories I had with my own friends.

Laila, Haden and Braxton I feel went through the most. They are going through real life issues that kids today are having to struggle with. Laila finds out something on her 18th birthday and goes through a lot with trying to figure out how to come to terms with it. Haden is dealing with issues since his dad died and Brax has his own struggle to deal with. As the 3 of them struggle to deal with those issues it’s the 5 of them together helping each other through everything.

This book had me laughing and then crying like a baby. The ending almost killed me (Be Warned--have tissues nearby) and I hope there are more books to come with these characters. I loved this book and by far the best YA book I have read. Looking forward to more work from this author!

~ Excerpt ~

“I guess we know the flavor of the week,” a female voice says from behind me, causing several others with her to laugh.
I know they’re talking about me. They’re always talking about me. It’s been this way since I was in seventh grade, but I’ve made it my mission to ignore it.
“She certainly gets around,” another voice chimes in.
Cole is sitting to my left, Haden to my right and both guys are staring at the field, but neither is paying attention to the game. I watch out of my peripheral as Haden’s forearm muscles tense and relax while Cole bites his lip. They are intently focused on the words being thrown at me, but keep quiet for the time being.
“She must be good because they all stick around,” a guy’s voice states in salacious tone that makes me nauseous.
I don’t wait for another barb to be hurled my way, even though I know it’s coming. I throw my arm around Haden and whisper something in his ear before kissing his cheek then turning to do the same to Cole. I lean forward to see Joey, who is next to Cole and give him a wink, “I’ll get you later, Baby.”
He shakes his head and laughs, “Why must you stir the pot?”
Haden smiles - proud of my display - and it pushes me on.
I turn to look at the three classmates who have stopped chattering long enough to watch my little show, jaws hanging open. I shrug my shoulders, and answer Joey, “I’m just giving them what they want.”
One of the girls, Kasey, looks at me and raises a brow, “And what about Braxton?”
I glance over to Cole who’s listening to everything, but is still watching the game. He smirks, as if he knows what’s coming and a smile of my own begins to break.
They are gawking at me when I turn and wet my lips before winking at the girls.
“If he wins, we all win,” I say huskily.
“Touchdown!” The announcer yells and the crowd jumps to their feet to celebrate. All but the three jerks behind me.

T.K. Rapp is a Texas girl born and raised. She earned a B.A. in Journalism from Texas A&M and it was there that she met the love of her life. He had a contract with the U.S. Navy that would take them across both coasts, and ultimately land them back home in Texas.
Upon finally settling in Texas, T.K. worked as a graphic designer and photographer for the family business that her mom started years earlier. She was able to infuse her creativity and passion, into something she enjoyed, but something was still missing. There was a voice in the back of her head that told her to write, so write, she did. And, somewhere on an external hard drive, are several stories she started and never finished.
Now at home, raising her two daughters, T.K. has more time to do the things she loves, which includes photography and writing. When she’s not doing one of those, she can be found with her family, which keeps her busy. She enjoys watching her kids in their various sporting activities (i.e. doing the soccer mom thing), having Sunday breakfast at her parent’s house, singing out loud and out of key or dancing like a fool. She loves raunchy humor, gossip blogs and a good book.
