Blog Tour: Choosing Henley by Anne Jolin

~ Synopsis ~

Lennon Montgomery is scared. Absolutely scared shitless of love.

When the floor fell out from underneath her perfect childhood, it shattered her ability to trust. The one man in her life who was genetically programmed to love her left her. Since then, she’s allowed men into her bed and even into her life, but never into her heart.

Until him.

Jamison Henley has never wanted a woman for longer than it takes him to make a guitar. He’s content living his life and loving only three things: making guitars, cooking great food, and Martha, his black pit bull. He never chases women, and he’s never had to.

Until her.

One night together changes everything. There’s no going back to the way it was before.

She doesn’t want to want him, but she does.

He knows he wants her, but he can’t have her.

Will Montgomery take the leap of faith in choosing Henley? Or will her fear cripple their chance at a happily ever after?

I really loved this book.  It was amazing.  I may have wanted to punch Jami in the face a couple times, but he really did redeem himself :)

Lennon has an issue with trust and letting people get close to her.  She never wants to feel the pain of betrayal again.  She doesn't think her heart can survive it again.  Ever since meeting Jami they have had an undeniable attraction.  She tries to fight it with everything she has, but one drunken night changes everything.  Will she finally let him in?  Or will she push him away for good?

Jami wants Lennon, but he doesn't understand why she is pushing him away.  He knows she has feelings for him, but is fighting them.  Finally after months of watching her turn away he's had enough.  Can he prove to her that he wants her and only her? Will he finally get the girl of his dreams?

This was an amazing book and I loved how we got more of Hannah and Greyson!!! I cannot wait to get Beth's story.  She is going to be a tough read!!  If you haven't read Chasing Rhodes I recommend reading that first.  Also Anne Jolin is an up and coming author to watch for. She is an amazing writer!!

Anne Jolin

I’m twenty four years old. I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside of Vancouver, Canada. I grew up riding horses, shooting guns and riding in trucks. I’ve been married to my handsome redneck husband for a year and we are parents to our chocolate fur baby, Bear. No kiddo’s yet! I am completely and utterly obsessed with country music, you will constantly find me stalking iTunes. If you don’t find me on iTunes, you’ll find me on Netflix because I am a self proclaimed movie junkie. Yes, that means that I quote them constantly in daily conversation and my characters do too! You couldn’t keep me away from a good action movie if you tried. I’m also a planning nut. I love to plan parties, events, trips – you name it! I don’t know if that’s considered a real hobby, but it is for me.

We were fortunate enough to travel a lot as a family growing up, and I think that helped spark my love of reading. I’m half Viking, my mom is Danish, and her entire side of the family still lives in Denmark. We’d visit them almost once a year, every year and it’s a nine hour flight. That’s a lot of uninterrupted time to read (or in my parent’s case, entertain four children – Yikes!). Somewhere along the way my love of reading, became a love of writing. I wrote short stories when I was younger, and although I majored in Business Management at college, I took as many English electives I could get my hands on.

During the day I work at my family construction company wearing a variety of different hats and at night, I write! I had never thought about writing books before, but after a few suggestions that I should try, I decided to give it a go. I loved it instantly! Having always been a creative person, it felt amazing to harness all that energy and use it to tell a story. Now, quite frankly it’s all I can think about, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m grateful to have developed my love of reading into a passion for writing. You’ll be seeing many more books from me in the future!

5 Stars

This book was Ah-Mazing!!  I love everything about this series.  I especially love the way Kacey stands up for herself!!

Kacey is happy to be away from her brother and mother.  But she isn't happy that her grandma isn't doing well.  She knows she is burning herself out with working full time, taking care of her grandma and trying to sleep and having the small life she does with Bree.  Bree wants her to get out and enjoy life more.  Bree figures taking her to a gym would be a good place to start, but doesn't know all of Kacey's past.  Kacey doesn't like MMA fighters and wants nothing to do with them.  Especially Tyler.  She's heard of his reputation.   But can she stand strong?  Or will she bend to his ways?  Or will her secret be enough to send him running?

Tyler is content having a different woman ever night.  He loves his life. He is finally moving up in the MMA standings. He is so close to the championship fight.  A couple more fights and it is his.  When he notices Kacey in his gym he wants her, but is shocked how much she pushes him away.  He sees it as a challenge, but there is something more to it than just a challenge.  He is starting to change.  Or is he?  Is it just the thrill of the chase making it so he wants only Kacey?  Or is he finally ready to settle down with one woman?

This is a great book of loss, pain, regret, redemption.  Kacey struggles with who her family is.  She doesn't want people to hate her because of it, but she also regrets not saying anything sooner.  But we all do things we shouldn't.  Tyler isn't perfect either.  He does things he probably shouldn't have done either. But it is amazing to watch them both grow.   I really love how Kacey is strong and she stands up for herself!!  I love L.P. Dover!!  And I cannot wait for Ryley's book.  I have to know what is going to happen with him and Ashleigh!!!

~ Excerpt ~

Spreading my legs with his knee, he smiled down at me and covered my body with his, leaning on his elbows to keep his full weight off of me. I was small underneath his body, utterly at his mercy. It was an archaic feeling, but I wanted him to take me, to claim me for his own—
leave his mark on me.
“I love the way you look when you’re happy, it’s breathtaking the way your face glows,” he claimed, brushing his fingers down my cheek. “However, your eyes are what I love the most.”
“Why is that?” I asked, kissing his fingers as be brushed them over my lips.
He brought his own gray gaze down closer and looked deeply into my eyes. “When I look at you, I see that light, beckoning me closer. It’s that light I’ve been so afraid will burn out if you let me in, but the more time I’ve spent with you, it’s only gotten brighter. I’m addicted to it … to you. These days I can’t seem to think of anything else.”
I felt the same way.
“And once you make love to me it’ll only get worse,” I admitted tenderly. “Is that a risk you’re willing to take?”
He lowered his lips to mine and I closed my eyes, loving the way my lips tingled every time they touched his. “Yes,” he answered. “I’d risk just about anything for you.”

5 Stars

I have always wondered what happened with Abby.  I always wanted it to be an open adoption.  So I was really excited to get a book about Abby and her life.

Abby was born with a hole in her heart.  Her mom always protected her and never wanted to let her participate in sports.  The one time she gives in and it turns bad.  Abby then finds out she is adopted, but her parents won't tell her who her biological parents are.  She struggles with this for several years.  Once she turns eighteen the decision is hers.  She knows that either way it can tear her apart.  Will she lose her parents?  Will her biological parents welcome her?  Why did they give her away?  So many questions that she wants to have answered, but is scared to find out the answers too.  But with Caleb by her side she finds the strength to do what she needs.  But will he always be there to guide her?   She will eventually need to learn to stand on her own two feet.

This book will tear your heart out.  I haven't cried so hard over a book in long time.  Have lots of tissues ready.  I was not prepared for the direction this book took.  This is another amazing read by Cassia Leo!!

Blog Tour: Shame by Rachel Van Dyken

~ Synopsis ~

Everything done in darkness, will eventually be brought into the light.
I ran, but all it did was keep me one step ahead of my past. I tried to start over; new name, new identity. But you can't change your soul.
A fresh start at college was just what I needed. For a while, it worked. I was the party girl, the one that seemed confident, but it was a lie.
When guys kissed me--I felt only pain.
When they touched me--Nothing but fear.
Deep inside, every girl wants to be the beauty in the story, to find someone that will see you as their world.
But the truth? I was the beast. And as much as I wanted redemption, I wasn't fool enough to think I'd ever get it.
Until he walked into my life.
I wasn't prepared to fall for someone. My scars were too deep, the wounds too raw. But he offered me peace, he offered me security. I should have known it was just another lie--I should have known that falling in love with my professor was a bad idea.
But I was powerless to stop myself from falling.
And he was powerless to catch me.
Because the darkness finally caught up to me, and as fate would have it, a cruel twist almost bled me dry. But I'm stronger than I knew. I'm stronger than you think.
You think you know my story, but you don't....after all everyone has Shame in their lives-- and I'm no longer afraid to show you mine.

I was really looking forward to this book.  But it was really hard for me to get into.

Lisa is trying to finally come out of the lie she's been living since her true identity came out.  People don't know the real reason she is in hiding.  Only Gabe does.  Even now he doesn't know everything because Lisa doesn't want to bother him now that he is happy and married.  She wants what all her friends has, but she can't let guys get close to her.  What happens when the one guy she lets close is forbidden?  Can she finally be happy?

Tristan is out to find the truth.  But the truth to what?  Does he even know?  All he knows is once he sets his eyes on Lisa he wants to know everything about her.  He is hiding a huge secret though.  He doesn't know how to tell her and if she finds out it may destroy her.  Can he keep it from her?  Will he tell her?

This book is a lot to do with bullying. It was a good read, but it kist wasn't something that pulled me in for some reason.  I recommend that you read it though.  It may speak to you.

~ Excerpt ~

I closed my eyes and leaned my forehead against hers. A shaky breath escaped her lips. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
“Are you trying to prepare me or ask permission?” she whispered, her voice beckoning me like a siren’s call.
“Both.” My lips hovered near hers. “I figure it’s only fair.”
“Fair?” She pulled back slightly. “How so?”
“Ten thousand.” I angled my head and watched the pulse jump on her neck. “That’s how many nerve endings, on average, are in your lips. Consequently, when your body anticipates pleasure, the build-up is the best part. Imagine, those ten thousand nerves are swelling, allowing blood to surge through them in anticipation of… what?” I swept my tongue across her lower lip and whispered, “Of being touched. I ask permission, not because I’m being a gentleman. It’s actually the complete opposite. I ask permission so your brain anticipates the pleasure before I’ve ever even touched you.”
I tasted her lower lip again and abruptly dipped my tongue into her mouth. Then just as quickly retreated. “The human body is an instrument. Know how to master it… and well…” I let my voice drop as I moved my hands slowly to her shoulders and tugged her body flush against mine. Our mouths met softly at first. I deepened the kiss, memorizing her taste, knowing I wouldn’t experience a kiss like this again in my lifetime. The way her scent, her soft moans destroyed my body, wrecked me from the deepest part of me, was nothing short of life-altering.
And I’d like to think I’d kissed a lot of women.
I’d studied the psychology of sexuality.
I was an expert in pleasure.
But she was schooling me, absolutely wreaking havoc on every logical thought as her soft whimper cascaded over me. Blood surged through my body as it tightened with awareness at her proximity.
She pulled back, her lips swollen. “That was… not a good enough warning.”
Laughing softly, I cupped the back of her head and gently drew it toward mine and kissed her again, angling my lips differently, searching her, consuming her, drawing pleasure from her lips as if it was my life goal to discover every single secret she owned.
Her arms wrapped around my neck. She was shy; she didn’t push against me, didn’t wrap her legs around me or moan into my mouth like I was having sex with her rather than kissing her.
My hands moved down her corset to her hips, and I lifted her into the air and walked her backward toward the brick wall. The whole time, our masks collided. In frustration, I ripped hers off, then mine. The shadows of moonlight hid our faces as I kissed her harder, losing myself in her.
Her nails dug at the back of my neck as she jerked my head harder. Groaning, I let her fall to the ground as I placed my hands on the brick wall to keep myself from ripping the dress from her body.
Shouting started from the ballroom.
“Ten, nine…!”
“Eight,” I whispered against her mouth. “Seven.”
“Six.” She sighed, her breathing labored as her tongue found mine again. “Five.”
“Four, three.” I pulled back and trailed kisses down her neck.
“Two.”
We broke apart, both breathing heavy. “One.”
People burst out onto the balcony as the fireworks started, lighting up the sky. And our faces.
And the only thing I could say as she gasped in horror was “Oh, shit.”

   PiS_Teaser_1_2014Excerpt
I stare at the phone as if it’s about to sprout wings and fly away at any moment. “Don’t be such a chicken shit,” I mumble out loud to myself. Then I pick up the receiver and angrily start pressing buttons as if I have a personal vendetta against the phone. Alex picks up on the second ring. “Julia,” he says. His voice, deep and lush this early in the morning and a shiver runs through me remembering his words from yesterday: I'm going to make you come so many times, blah blah blah . . . I've taken the liberty of just focusing on this piece of his threat because well, honestly, who the hell cares what else he said? It's not important. “Julia?” he asks. “Yes?” He laughs a delicious low rumble from his chest. Muted, but sexy as hell. “You called me. Is there something you wanted?” he asks. The question is laced with possibilities. And for once, I’m not going to tuck my tail between my legs and run. “Yes,” I say trying to contain the smile threatening the corners of my mouth. “I was wondering if you wanted to get together or something.” “Are you asking me out on a date, Julia?” “It’s not a date… technically.” It’s soooo a date. “It’s not?” he asks amused. “Then what would you call it?” “Two friends who obviously are very attracted to each other and-“ “-Obviously,” he interrupts. “Go on.” “As I was saying… two friends who are very attracted to each other and would like to get to know each other better.” “A date,” he says. “It’s not a date, Alex.” “When would you like this not a date but very much so a date to happen?” he asks playfully. I like playful Alex. Too much. But I don’t want to let that show while on the phone. I’d rather play it cool, safe, and slow. It’s also a bit of a torture trip for both of us, which in the long run makes the chase that much more exciting. I mean, who doesn’t love a good slow burn? I know I do. “How does tomorrow after work sound for our very much not a date sound?” I ask. “Fox’s? Say around six o’clock?” He’s smiling when he answers. “It’s a date. Shall I pick you up at your office?” “I’ll meet you there.” “Of course you will because it’s not a date, right?” he asks. “Just two friends who are very attracted to each other and want to get to know each other better?” “You’re catching on,” I answer. “I’m a fast learner, Julia,” he says with a light chuckle. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
