~Excerpt ~
“No,” I scream, shoving him so hard he takes two steps back. “I won’t listen to you. All you’re going to do is make me feel incomplete. Do you know that you can do that? Make someone feel so utterly worthless? You touched me like I mattered, and yet you look at me like I’m a sale. I won’t do it. I don’t deserve it. I don’t…” He’s moving toward me before I can finish, and before I know what’s happening he grips my shoulder and jerks me forward, crushing his lips down on mine. My world stops. My legs give way. Hendrix wraps his arms around my waist, holding me up before parting my shocked frozen lips with his tongue. It only takes a moment for me to respond. My entire body is tingling with warmth, my heart is thumping, and my stomach is full of butterflies. I open my mouth to him, and I let him slide his tongue inside. I connect my tongue with his, and finally, I get to taste him. It’s been worth the wait. His lips, his tongue, his mouth: it’s like heaven. The feeling of his stubble on my cheeks is exactly as I imagined.

~ SYNOPSIS ~

At first glance, twenty-two-year-old Brianna’s life seems perfect. But she harbors a deadly secret—her father is the leader of a ruthless drug cartel. Brianna struggles to find her place in a world her father meticulously controls, and believes she is nothing but a pawn in her father’s deadly games.

After graduating from college with an enormous debt, Dominic finds himself lured by money and power into a job that appears too good to be true. He doesn’t realize he works for a drug cartel until he’s in too deep. Trying to keep his family safe, he takes a deal offered by Brianna’s father and agrees to marry Brianna while continuing to work for the cartel.

Brianna and Dominic must rely on one another as their lives become further entwined in the lethal drug world. When Dominic discovers a deadly secret, he begins to question everything and turns to Brianna for support. However, Brianna’s heart belongs to another man—an undercover DEA agent.

The DEA closes in on the drug cartel, forcing Brianna and Dominic to choose sides, igniting a battle between family loyalty, love, and survival. Brianna soon realizes that she may be the only person capable of bringing down her father’s empire—if she can find a way to outsmart the master manipulator, without losing herself, and her heart, in the process.

Jennifer graduated from the University of San Diego with a degree in English and a teaching credential. Afterwards, she finally married her best friend and high school sweetheart. Jennifer is currently a full-time writer and mother of three young children. Her days are spent living in imaginary worlds and fueling her own kids’ creativity.

~ The Long Version ~

I graduated with Department Honors from the University of San Diego with a degree in English. While working to earn my teaching credential, I was a legal assistant for an attorney. That’s about the time I finally married my high school sweetheart. Once I received my credential from USD, I taught high school English until I had my first child.

Currently I am a stay-at-home mom. I have three kids, one large dog, a gecko, and a frog.

A couple of years ago, I entered a writing contest about motherhood and won.  My essay “Caution: Warning Lable Not Included!” was published in the anthology Manual for Motherhood, reaching number one in the Parenting section of Amazon!  This sparked my need to write on a daily basis, and I have been writing ever since!

My debut young adult novel The Voice was published by Lands Atlantic in January 2013. The Voice is nominated for three Novel Grounds Literary Awards: Best Indie, Favorite Five Star, and Best Book Boyfriend!

My second book, The Power to See, is a new adult novel and will be available in October 2013.

My third book, The Key, is a young adult light fantasy novel, and will be available November 16, 2013.

I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing.  Being transported into another world and experiencing things beyond my imagination – what could be better? Besides being an outlet and a love, I hope to write books that encourage all to read.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Fighting Redemption by Kate McCarthy

~ Synopsis ~

Ryan Kendall is broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

~ My Review ~
5 Star Review

OMG I loved this book.  It wasn't your typical romance story.  It wasn't boy meets girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after.  No, this story is about life and everything that stands in our way, war and true heartbreak.

Finley, or Fin as she likes to go by, is trying to live her life the best she can.  She has been in love with Ryan forever.  She has loved him since the first day she met him when she was eight.  She never could get him to see her as a partner, just his best friends kid sister.  She finally decides after she turned seventeen it was time to move on.  She wanted to live life to the fullest and that was her goal.  Can she give her heart to another? Or will it always belong to Ryan?

Ryan doesn't know how to handle Fin.  He believes he isn't good enough for her.  He fights his attraction to her and reminds himself that he is leaving for the military as soon as he can.  The military is his way out, the way to make his life more.  Once he leaves, he doesn't know how to reach out to Fin.  He never thought leaving her would be so hard.  Can he find a way to let her in and love her?  Or does going away to war bring them farther apart?

This is a must read book.  I needed a change of pace from what I had been reading!  Most things in real life don't just happen overnight and end happily.  There is the ups and downs to our happiness.  I loved watching both Fin and Ryan grow and learn who they truly are.  This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster and leave you wanting more.  You will laugh at some of the characters and just be happy that when things come to a close everyone found their true place in life.

When she’s not busy running after naughty kids, filthy dogs, crunching numbers, piping buttercream and writing books, you can find her curled up in bed in the early hours of the morning reading new books and re-reading old favourites. Her favourite books are the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward in which she longs to eventually join the brotherhood and change her name to Phierce Mutha.

 ~ Synopsis ~

Book 2 in the Mercy's Angels Series (can be read as a stand alone)
Book 1 - Saving Ella

Rebecca Donovan was missing intimacy, but no matter how much she longed for a man to warm her bed and heart, she would not give Charlie a second chance.

"Strength is overcoming your worst fear." ~ Charlie Cole

*** Due to adult content, this book is recommended for readers 17 years+ ****

~ Our Review ~
4.5 Star Review by Jessica

Fighting Back is the second book in Kirsty Dallas’ Mercy’s Angels series. Although it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading Saving Ella first, as many of the same characters appear prominently in both books. Fighting Back focuses on Charlie and Rebecca and I adored both characters! Charlie is lush, alpha through-and-through, tattooed and muscled, and Rebecca is gorgeous, quirky, and fiercely independent. They shared what was essentially a one-night-stand a year ago, and although they both felt something more that night, a misunderstanding and hurt feelings put a halt to anything developing further. When Rebecca undergoes a deeply traumatic event, Charlie is by her side in an instant and vows not to let her slip through his fingers again.

She leaned into me and cried like her soul had been ripped to shreds, and in that moment, I was pretty sure mine had, too.

As was the case in book one, there is no insta-love here. After spending an entire year barely speaking, Charlie nevertheless understands that the spirited Rebecca he remembers is in a fragile and vulnerable state as a result of a viscous attack and needs to recover at her own pace. He is considerate of her feelings and although he desires her, is willing to wait until she is ready to move their friendship forward, regardless of how long that takes. OMG, have I mentioned that I loved Charlie??!

I didn’t want anyone other than you back then, I haven’t wanted anyone other than you since then, and I sure as hell don’t want anyone other than you now.”

Charlie and Rebecca are just fabulous together. Both characters have a hefty dose of emotional baggage and they are exactly what the other needs to move forward and begin to recover. Their banter had me giggling one minute and sighing dreamily the next. And I adored Charlie’s Betty Boop nickname for the retro-loving Rebecca!

You’re in charge here, Betty Boop, if you want it, take it.”

You will feel for both Rebecca and Charlie and swoon as they realize just how much they care for each other.  As I mentioned previously, many of the characters from book one show up in Fighting Back and I was so happy to see them again!  The Mercy's Angels series is my first time reading Kirsty Dallas, but it certainly won't be the last!

~ Author Bio ~

I'm just a little Aussie girl with a big imagination, so much to write and so little time to do it. When I'm not writing (or reading) I am kept smiling and sane (for the most part) by my 5 year old daughter. She is the light in my world. I have a wonderfully supportive family who keep me completely grounded. Trust me, they will never let any success go to my head!! And I love them for it. I enjoy ice cold ciders, barbeques, music and art. I hate cooking, in fact I think I have major kitchen allergies. My feet rarely grace anything other than flip-flops and even in the middle of a hot Aussie summer, I love my jeans!!! To sum me up in a few words (and you know how hard just a few words is for an author) ~ easy going, laid back, dreamy and passionate.

I hope you all love reading my novels as much as I love writing them.

Stay at home mom to one very interesting little boy. I have been writing since 7th grade when my English teacher turned me onto poetry and never stopped. Thank you Mrs. Williams. In high school I had yet another English teacher inspire me to start writing short stories where I found my first true love, turning words into something so simple yet complex that it can move other people to love it or hate it, but in the end to feel emotions about something I created.
