Valentine's Love Letter from Ryland Thomas

So, today’s Valentine’s Day and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than with you … so I could wrap you in my arms and do this

But since I’m not, I guess I’ll have to settle for letting you know this
And while I’m sleeping alone, and dreaming of this

And just so you don’t forget…

~ Synopsis ~

Jackson thought he knew what love was and feels like he missed his chance at happiness. He realizes he wasted his chances by chasing after one-night stands instead of going after what he really wanted.
Kaylie knows what loss feels like and doesn't want to take a chance on love. She puts up walls to keep her heart protected from experiencing that kind of pain again.
What happens when a guy who refuses to lose out again meets a girl who resists him as much as she can? Will Jackson be able to hit the wall Kaylie has put up and knock it down?

~ Excerpt ~

“What the fuck?!” I heard as the door was thrown open. My jaw dropped at the sight of Jackson Silver in Sasha’s room. I never would have thought he had it in him to care enough about any woman to get into a shouting match with her the way he blew through all the girls on campus, except maybe his sister and her best friend. Not that I didn’t totally get why so many girls went crazy over him with his tousled blond hair, wicked blue eyes and insanely hot body. But he was the epitome of love ‘em and leave ‘em, never spending more than a few nights with the same one.
“Ummmm…” I stuttered in response.
“You don’t want to get in the middle of this, little girl,” he growled at me.
I glanced at Sasha, who was standing behind him with tears streaking down her cheeks. She was usually so perfectly put-together, but she looked a total wreck right now with her hair mussed up and mascara smudged everywhere. She wasn’t my favorite person in the world, but it seemed like she could use a little bit of help right about now.

~ Review ~
5 Star Review

This book was amazing.  I did not want to put it down.  I HAD to know what was going to happen. It was like I need air to breathe.

Shannon has been struggling the last couple years.  Ever since her husband Greg's accident that caused his amnesia.  He doesn't remember her or any of their life.  She is struggling with him because he has turned to drinking and woman to deal with it.  She stays with him because her wedding vows.  In sickness and in health.  But when her high school sweetheart Triston, shows up she is tempted to hook up with him.  Will her husband stop his cheating ways?  Will she finally leave him and move on with her life?

Greg is happy to have amnesia.  His wife lets him do whatever he wants.  He loves the woman and practically sleeps with anyone that gives him the go ahead.  He doesn't care that he is hurting her.  He wants to keep her, but live a bachelor life.  Will he lose Shannon for good?  Will he care?

Triston has always regretted his and Shannon's breakup.  He wants to find some closure so maybe he can move on with his life and find love again.  Though he gets more than he bargained for .  He still wants Shannon and wants to protect her.  He can't leave her when she needs someone.  He doesn't understand how she can stand by while her husband flaunts woman in front of her.  He wants to help her find the woman she use to be.  Will he get a second chance at love with her?  Will he finally move on with the closure he needed?

This book is about love, betrayal and moving on.  I wanted to strangle Shannon at times, but I found myself trying to put myself in her shoes and I don't know what I would have done.  I don't think that we really know how we would handle something till we have too.  This is a must read book and will definitely  be on my top reads of 2014!!!  Well done R.M. Alexander!

She reached toward his hand, her heart shuddering as he flinched away. “Greg, Greg, come on.” She sidled up next to him, pressing his hand, still tight around the bottleneck, gently downward and ignoring his glare. No doubt he resented the intrusion. It didn’t matter. He’d come to the only sanctuary she had, allowing him to ruin it was not an option. “How about you come rest in one of the guest rooms? I have a vacancy. You can watch some TV, maybe get some sleep.” She kept her other hand rested on one of his fading biceps, the fingers feeling alien against a memory of gym-toned masculinity.

Greg snatched his arm from reach, defiance hardening the charcoal in his eyes, his voice a snarl. “I don’t want to sleep. I want to party.” He grinned, pushing against her weaker hold to raise the bottle as he surveyed the room. His voice bellowed once again. “Where’s a pretty date wanting some great entertainment? I’ve got it right here.” He gestured towards his groin, bellowing laughter.

The words and gesture cut hard against her. With eyes closed, she found her center and whispered words more damaging to her sanity than his feral actions. “The entertainment will begin later. First, you should lie down. You’ll want to be at your best for the party tonight, won’t you?”

Novel – 40K word count – Paranormal / Witches/ Shifter Romance

~ Our Review ~
4.5 Star Review by Guest Reviewer Cybill

This is such an exciting book. Margaret is a shifter wolf, she has a good job and a great family. She has had a crush on her friend's brother forever but when she turned 25 she realized he wasn't her mate. Attending Chase and Sam's wedding she meets Scott O'Hearn.

Scott is 7 feet of solid man with chocolate brown eyes, dimples, and hotness! He's perfect! Except for the small fact that he is a BEAR! Proof that we don't get to pick out mates, fate picks us. Dealing with finding a mate isn't the only problem that this couple will face. Tragedy will follow.

What happens when a mate is killed in an arcane ritual and the governing body is to blame? The inner beast will consume you. Reneta Damakis has gone insane, and her wolf has taken over, seeking vengeance.

Clans will clash, people will die, war is consuming. Will the wolf pack accept a bear as Margaret's mate? Reneta must get control of her wolf, the whole underworld community will pay if she doesn't.

This is another short read in the series, but it is packed from the start with suspense. I enjoyed the first book but this one opened the shifter world so much further. I look forward to reading the third book.

~ Synopsis ~

Council threats and Renata’s deadly attack leave the Vegas pack scrambling to regroup…

Heartbroken over the death of her fiancé and tortured by a voice in her mind that’s haunted her since childhood, Sarah McLain learns her true ancestry after attending her best friend Margaret’s wedding. Can the pack save Sarah from the darkness that threatens to overwhelm her? Or will the wolf inside drive her over the edge before they can show her being a supernatural being is a good thing?

Chris Michaels is in charge of training the new latent werewolves at the O’Hearn mountain inn, now known as Woodhaven. His focus is tested when he finds out the beautiful but sad redhead, Sarah McLain, is his trainee. The connection he feels to her is strong but not magickal, and his wolf claims it foolish to listen to his human instincts. Can Chris heal her broken heart in time, or will he lose the woman he knows is perfect for him.

~ Our Review ~
4.5 Star Review by Guest Reviewer Cybill

This is the third installment in the Vegas Mates series and it does not disappoint. Sarah McLain is in a pit of despair. Six months ago she lost her fiancé to a violent animal attack, sending her back home to Vegas to stay with her parents. Now she is sitting in the audience for the wedding of her good friend Margaret as she marries Scott, reeling from her pain. She is plagued by nightmares and doesn't understand why.

Chris Michaels has been chasing Nicole Demakis for years, when she turns 25 he realizes she's not his intended mate. He meets Sarah, he feels a connection. She doesn't know who or what she is, can she be his mate?

Reneta Demakis is on a one-woman vengeance filled killing spree. Systematically hunting down all who the Council deems unworthy. Sarah is a latent wolf, meaning she is only half wolf. The wolf must be brought forth before Reneta can get to her. The pack must protect and change as many

When Sarah's wolf is brought to the surface will Chris be her mate? Things continue to spiral out of control and the war is just beginning. With a lot of the key members dead, will the North American supernaturals prevail?

I am usually not a fan of short books, but this series has me intrigued. I am anticipating who will mate next, what type of shifter they will be, and how this war will play out. Will Reneta ever get control of her wolf, or will it be the end of her whats left of her family?

~ Synopsis ~

Kidnapped. Taken to a private island.

I never thought this could happen to me. I never imagined one chance meeting on the eve of my eighteenth birthday could change my life so completely. Now I belong to him. To Julian. To a man who is as ruthless as he is beautiful – a man whose touch makes me burn. A man whose tenderness I find more devastating than his cruelty. My captor is an enigma. I don’t know who he is or why he took me. There is a darkness inside him – a darkness that scares me even as it draws me in. My name is Nora Leston, and this is my story. WARNING: This is NOT a traditional romance. It contains disturbing subject matter, including themes of questionable consent and Stockholm Syndrome, as well as graphic sexual content. This is a work of fiction intended for a mature, 18+ audience only. The author neither endorses nor condones this type of behavior.

~ Excerpt ~

It’s evening now. With every minute that passes, I’m starting to get more and more anxious at the thought of seeing my captor again. The novel that I’ve been reading can no longer hold my interest. I put it down and walk in circles around the room. I am dressed in the clothes Beth had given me earlier. It’s not what I would’ve chosen to wear, but it’s better than a bathrobe. A sexy pair of white lacy panties and a matching bra for underwear. A pretty blue sundress that buttons in the front. Everything fits me suspiciously well. Has he been stalking me for a while? Learning everything about me, including my clothing size? The thought makes me sick. I am trying not to think about what’s to come, but it’s impossible. I don’t know why I’m so sure he’ll come to me tonight. It’s possible he has an entire harem of women stashed away on this island, and he visits each one only once a week, like sultans used to do. Yet somehow I know he’ll be here soon. Last night had simply whetted his appetite. I know he’s not done with me, not by a long shot.  Finally, the door opens. He walks in like he owns the place. Which, of course, he does.  I am again struck by his masculine beauty. He could’ve been a model or a movie star, with a face like his. If there was any fairness in the world, he would’ve been short or had some other imperfection to offset that face.  But he doesn’t. His body is tall and muscular, perfectly proportioned. I remember what it feels like to have him inside me, and I feel an unwelcome jolt of arousal. He’s again wearing jeans and a T-shirt. A grey one this time. He seems to favor simple clothing, and he’s smart to do so. His looks don’t need any enhancement.  He smiles at me. It’s his fallen angel smile—dark and seductive at the same time. “Hello, Nora.” I don’t know what to say to him, so I blurt out the first thing that pops into my head. “How long are you going to keep me here?” He cocks his head slightly to the side. “Here in the room? Or on the island?” “Both.” “Beth will show you around tomorrow, take you swimming, if you’d like,” he says, approaching me. “You won’t be locked in, unless you do something foolish.” “Such as?” I ask, my heart pounding in my chest as he stops next to me and lifts his hand to stroke my hair. “Trying to harm Beth or yourself.” His voice is soft, his gaze hypnotic as he looks down on me. The way he’s touching my hair is oddly relaxing. I blink, trying to break his spell. “And what about on the island? How long will you keep me here?” His hand caresses my face now, curves around my cheek. I catch myself leaning into his touch, like a cat getting petted, and I immediately stiffen. His lips curve into a knowing smile. The bastard knows the effect he has on me. “A long time, I hope,” he says. For some reason, I’m not surprised. He wouldn’t have bothered bringing me all the way here if he just wanted to fuck me a few times. I’m terrified, but I’m not surprised. I gather my courage and ask the next logical question. “Why did you kidnap me?” The smile leaves his face. He doesn’t answer, just looks at me with an inscrutable blue gaze. I begin to shake. “Are you going to kill me?”  “No, Nora, I won’t kill you.” His denial reassures me, although he could obviously be lying. “Are you going to sell me?” I can barely get the words out. “Like to be a prostitute or something?” “No,” he says softly. “Never. You’re mine and mine alone.”  I feel a tiny bit calmer, but there is one more thing I have to know. “Are you going to hurt me?” For a moment, he doesn’t answer again. Something dark briefly flashes in his eyes. “Probably,” he says quietly.  And then he leans down and kisses me, his warm lips soft and gentle on mine.  For a second, I stand there frozen, unresponsive. I believe him. I know he’s telling the truth when he says he’ll hurt me. There’s something in him that scares me—that has scared me from the very beginning.  He’s nothing like the boys I’ve gone on dates with. He’s capable of anything.  And I’m completely at his mercy. I think about trying to fight him again. That would be the normal thing to do in my situation. The brave thing to do. And yet I don’t do it. I can feel the darkness inside him. There’s something wrong with him. His outer beauty hides something monstrous underneath. I don’t want to unleash that darkness. I don’t know what will happen if I do. So I stand still in his embrace and let him kiss me. And when he picks me up again and takes me to bed, I don’t try to resist in any way. Instead, I close my eyes and give in to the sensations.
