4 Stars by Brittany

This was a sweet book about love.  The story line is that simple and it was so well written that it was all that it needed.

Jake is in love with Beth, but Beth is afraid to love Jake back. She's got a huge secret that she's sure will send Jake running for the hills. She's forced to tell him her past and her secret when her mother becomes terminally ill. Jake goes beyond understanding and shows Beth that not everyone in her life will run away from her, but will she ever really be able to tell him how she feels?

This beautiful journey is a simple read. It was one that was easy to enjoy and while there was pain to feel, I didn't think it was so overwhelming that the characters couldn't find their way back. Honestly, this book was a breath of fresh air. Each one of us has hurt in our life, but it's whether we're willing to deal with it and move on or run from it that makes us who we are. I applaud Beth's character. She made the right choices, even if they were hard. She wasn't selfish in her actions and ultimately that's why I liked this book so much.

The lightening shines again in our room and she rolls to face me. Her beautiful lips are puckered and her cheeks are stained with tears from earlier. I slide into bed and pull her close to me. She snuggles right up and my heart feels like it is going to explode. This is so right. How can she not realize it?
My eyes slowly shut and I’m off into a peaceful sleep with the love of my life.
It feels as though my eyes just shut when I am jolted awake by Beth screaming out into the night. The blood curdling sound has me on my feet before I even know what is going on. I try to blink the sleep from my eyes and focus on the room.
That’s when I see her. In bed curled into a fetal position shaking uncontrollably. “Beth, Beth baby, what’s wrong?” She doesn’t loosen the grip on her legs. I don’t want to scare her any more than she is.
She jerks away from me when I place a hand on her shoulder trying to calm her. If it’s possible I think she actually curls into herself even more. I need her to focus on me. Moving swiftly around the bed to be in front of her, I crouch down to her eye level.
“Beth, I need you to look at me.” I move the matted hair away from her eyes. It takes a few minutes before I see her white knuckles move and start gaining color. Then her eyes meet mine. They seem so empty and scared.
When she finally seems to focus, she lunges at me. I move quickly to catch her body flying at me. If I didn’t know she was truly scared out of her mind, I would have laughed because she knocks me on my ass.
I just hold her. Caress her back and hair. She isn’t crying. If I had to guess I’d say she is in some sort of shock. Time seems to stand still. Then her body starts shaking again. “Beth, shhhhh, it’s going to be okay. Please talk to me. I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Her breathing seems to calm down and the shaking slows. “Where’d you go baby? Come back to me.” Feeling like I can move without scaring her, I cradle her to my chest and move to the bed again. Siting her on my lap, I rest my back on the headboard.
She looks up and tries to back out of my embrace. “Oh God, Jake, I’m so sorry.” Her hands try to cover her face. “That hasn’t happened to me since I was in school. Fuck how embarrassing.”
Grabbing her hands I pull them away. “You said you wouldn’t shut me out. Elizabeth look at me. What happened?”
Her face falls and she looks away.

5 Stars

Once again, Georgia Cates has gone above and beyond my expectations! This is the final book in this trilogy and if you haven't read the others, you really need to start there.

This book picks up with Bleu being captured by the rival gang called The Order. Now that she's pregnant she isn't able to try to escape like she would have before. Sin is stuck in a holding cell and knows Bleu needs his help. Will he be able to save her before it's too late? And will Bleu find out who really killed her mother?

This book was the bloodiest of them all. I squirmed several times because of the incredible detail. Cates has made me feel like I was standing in the room while these horrible things were taking place. I could see the blood, the heartbreak, and the bond of this family. There is even one twist that left my heart beating and my head spinning.

I have thoroughly enjoyed that the characters support each other.  It's a story about loving some one unconditionally. This trilogy has easily moved into one of my favorite reads.

~ Excerpt ~
 Bleu’s POV

I watch the number above the elevator doors increase as the lift rises to our floor. Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. Three more to go. It’s too many when your husband pins your body against him while his hand roams downward to rub between your legs.
He’s fervent to say the least.
Warm breath moves over my ear. A tingle races down my spine and goosebumps erupt over my skin. I’m sure there’s a camera on us right now. All elevators have them. “We’re probably giving a thrill to whoever is watching the security footage.”
“Don’t give a fuck. The thrill I’m feeling is much more important to me right now.”
The doors open and we sprint toward our room. Sin is so anxious his first three attempts at unlocking the door are unsuccessful. “Son of a bitch. The keycard isn’t working.”
I hold out my hand and he places the card in my palm. I slide it in and pull it slower. Click. “Open sesame.”
“Fuck. That was sexy.”
All I did was open a door. “I put the keycard in the hole and pulled it out.”
“I know,” he growls while pulling me through the door toward the bed.
We shed our coats and go to work on all fabric barriers preventing our bodies from being bare against one another. He undresses himself while I do the same, his eyes never leaving my body. “Shite. I may come before you get naked.”
My eyes immediately drop to the crotch of his boxer briefs. He has a huge erection tenting his underwear with a wet spot covering the tip. “Don’t you dare.”
I undress faster. More than one stitch pops as I pull my dress over my head. Articles of clothing drop randomly to the floor with no regard for wrinkling.

~ A Necessary Sin- Book 1 of The Sin Trilogy ~

Bleu MacAllister is consumed. A horrific childhood incident has caused every decision in her life to revolve around bringing a monster to justice. With years spent studying The Fellowship, an organized crime brotherhood of liars, thieves, and killers, Bleu will rely on her skills as a special agent to cut Thane Breckenridge off at the knees. But walking hand in hand with retribution means risking collateral damage, in the form of Breckenridge’s son Sinclair—until Sin becomes so much more than Bleu bargained for. She’s always known this undertaking would place her life in danger—she never imagined her heart would be as well.

Sometimes love can be cruel. Not that Roxane has fallen in love but the one man she found interesting has crossed from her personal life into her professional one which makes life complicated. Parker Williams doesn’t take no for an answer, not that Roxane would deny him anyway. He has his own set of rules that must be followed while hers are being crossed through like a to-do list. When a person falls in love, it’s supposed to be easy but it’s much more complex than either realized it could be. Roxane’s control is slipping along with every opinion she had about love. This time, it feels different. This time, it finally feels right. Slowly she realizes how much is at stake, but she is only concerned about losing one thing—her heart.

~ Excerpt ~

"Are you fucking kidding me, Rox?" Stacey screamed into the phone. There was music blaring in the background, and I heard the clicking of a camera lens and loud flashes. I could only imagine how many umbrellas were set up for the shoot. She was at her next spread for Cover Girl, but decided to stop the presses just for me. "I wish I were," I said, remembering his lips on my thighs and the taste of him in my mouth. "He’s intoxicating." My words seemed to drift away into the open space of the car as I accelerated onto the 610 Loop. "Oh my god," she said. "The airiness in your tone, the pauses between your sentences—you fucking liiiiiiiiike him, don’t you?" I couldn’t admit that, not right now. It was too soon, way too soon. Actually, only hours after the incident, as I now termed it. I couldn’t even tell Stacey what exactly had happened, just that something had happened. Her imagination was dirty, so I’m sure she could figure it out with just a few hints. Honestly, if I even said a peep about it, or about how Parker Williams made me feel, she would be declaring her victory. I might as well just hand her the crown. The incident had shifted everything I once thought I believed, and everything I had tried to avoid. I couldn’t deny that when I closed my eyes, his face was the one I saw. Those piercing blue eyes were burned into my retinas. I knew the smile permanently attached to my lips existed for one reason. Or if one wanted to get technical, it was the messy brown hair, blue eyes, and that sexy voice that almost made my knees go weak. Oh my god. Was I having a revelation? Yes, I was having a revelation. Maybe I wasn’t in control of how I felt anymore? But that couldn't be. Not after being with someone only once. The chase was over, wasn't it? Fuuuuucccckkkkkk me! The heart was trying to control me, but I couldn’t let it. Even the heart had weaknesses. Love was the equivalent of stabbing a dagger into a heart and twisting. Okay, maybe it wasn't that dramatic, but it felt like it to me. "No. Of course not," I said after a long pause. I was lost in my thoughts, and Stacey, being the way she was, noticed. "I wish I could see your face right now, because I know you’re lying. I know you are trying to feed me lies, Roxane VanBuren, and I’m not having it. I want every single dirty little detail of what happened, and not just, ‘we moved to second base,’ got it?" A man’s voice yelled in the background about how models should get off their damn phones and actually work today. "I’ve got to go. Darrell is being such a douche. I swear his glitter panties are in a knot right now … but this isn’t over." More yells followed, and she said her goodbyes after cursing loudly that it was an emergency and people needed to shut the hell up. My heart raced at the thought of what was happening to me. I had to deny this at all costs. I couldn’t be in like. I had never fallen for someone so soon. No way. And if I started admitting it, even to myself, it would be trouble. I knew it sounded so silly to be in like, but it was the first step to love. All I could think of was that stupid childhood chant that we all sang to agitate people who were in like. Roxy and Parker sitting in a tree … next thing there would k-i-s-s-i-n-g, love, then a baby in a baby carriage. Hell no. No. There were no babies in my future.

Single, Volume One
Single

After failing miserably at love, Roxane VanBuren swears off men but not before her determined best friend shows her all the advantages of being single. After a wild weekend full of sex, old-flames, and secrets, Roxane is desperate to forget it ever happened. But she learns it isn't that easy. Since becoming the President of VanBuren Investments, she knows how important it is for her professional and personal life to remain separate from one another. If the two were to mix, the rumors could possibly ruin her reputation, which is bad for her and bad for business. To avoid that, Roxane allows rules to define and guide her every move. Unfortunately for her, Parker Williams is determined to break them all, one at a time.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Leaving Amarillo by Caisey Quinn

~ Synopsis ~

Dixie Lark hasn’t had it easy. She lost her parents in an accident when she was young and grew up in a ramshackle house on a dirt road in Amarillo with her ailing grandparents and overprotective older brother. Thanks to her grandfather, Dixie learned to play a mean fiddle, inspired by the sounds of the greats—Johnny and June, Waylon, and Hank. Her grandfather’s fiddle changed Dixie’s life forever, giving her an outlet for the turmoil of her broken heart and inspiring a daring dream.

Ten years later, Dixie and her brother, Dallas, are creating the music they love and chasing fame with their hot band, Leaving Amarillo. But Dixie isn’t enjoying the ride. All she can think about is Gavin, the band’s tattooed, tortured drummer who she’s loved since they were kids. She knows he feels the connection between them, but he refuses see her as more than his best friend’s little sister.

Convinced that one night with Gavin will get him out of her system, Dixie devises a plan. She doesn’t know that her brother has forbidden Gavin from making a move on her-a promise he swore he’d always keep . . . a promise that once broken will unexpectedly change the future for Dixie, Gavin and the band.

5 Stars by Guest Reviewer Brittany

I am in awe of this book. It was one of my absolute favorites! I completely fell in love with Dixie and Gavin. And holy moly, I think my panties melted a little in one of their love scenes! I am thoroughly in love with Caisey Quinn now.

This is the story of Dixie, little sister to Dallas. Dallas' best friend is Gavin. The three have grown up together and started a band called Leaving Amarillo. The journey is a heartbreaking
story about the loss of Dixie and Dallas' family. All they have are each other and Gavin. And Dixie is in love with Gavin, but Gavin has promised Dallas he would keep his hands off Dixie.

However, Dixie has other ideas. All she wants is one night with Gavin. She thinks that having one night with him would be better than never having a night with him. Will she really be ok with just one night? Or will her heart get broken?

There is a twist to this story that left me with my mouth open. I can't wait for the next installment of their story. I'm chomping at the bit for more. And because I loved this story so much I went out and bought more of Caisey Quinn's books. Once you read this, you're going to be hooked too!

~ Excerpt ~

1. But here, where I am right now, Gavin Garrison is making love to me with his eyes. And I don’t want him to stop. Ever.

2. It’s when he takes her hand and slowly slides up the sleeve of her dress shirt so that he can write on her wrist that I lose my mind completely.

3. He opens his mouth to respond—most likely to deny that he did that tonight—but I place my trembling fingers against his lips, firmly breaking our ten-year unspoken no-touching rule.

4. But you can’t really have fire. You can’t hold a flame in your hands without getting burned.

5. He’s not watching you like he’s worried you’ll screw up. He’s watching you like he’s worried you’ll disappear and take his heart with you.

6. We’re more than that. You and Dallas are all I have. Do you get that?

7. I don’t know when I became this pathetic mess so completely codependent on the happiness of someone who has told me in no uncertain terms that he will never cross the friendship line with me, but here I am.

8. He breathes into me, filling me, and I take his offering greedily, pulling his tongue and lips into my mouth harder than is appropriate for a first kiss.

9. I’ve taken the first hit and already I’m addicted.

10. It was a mistake. Like I told you before, there are moments when things between us get…difficult to control. This time I screwed up and gave in, that’s all. It won’t happen again.

11. If I can’t make him see that he is both capable and worthy of love, that memory will have to be enough for me, even if it’s all I’ll ever have.

12. All I can feel is his mouth on my neck, his hands on my hips, and the promises of what’s to come—literally—against my backside.

13. I will make it impossible for him to say no, somehow. I have five floors on the elevator to figure it out. My heart rises into my throat as we make our way upward.

14. “All I can think about is how good this ice cream would taste if I was licking it off your body instead of this plastic spoon.”

15. I’m thrusting against his mouth and moaning in pleasure when I feel it. The pressure has reached its peak and I need him inside. Now.

This book was good.  It was a fast read.  I felt like it was missing something.

Zoey had been in love with Blake since she met him.  When she first met him she didn't realize he was the brother of her best friend.  Once she found out she stayed away from him. She wanted him from afar, but wasn't brave enough to make a move.  She leaves for Paris after high school.  When she comes home will she be brave enough to make a move on Blake?

Blake wants to become a famous actor.  He is good at acting so he is willing to do whatever it takes to make it big.  He never really looked at Zoey as more than his kid sisters friend until New Years when she kissed him.  But is he willing to go for her or will he let her go?

This was a sweet romance.  It had the obvious drama that most romances have.  I really recommend this series. They are all great reads!!

~ Excerpt ~

I only have one New Year’s resolution, and it’s the same I’ve had for six years now:

Make Blake Callahan fall madly, deeply, and uncontrollably in love with me.

Every year, I write it in big block letters on the first page of my new journal, and every year, I finish out December with those some words still taunting me. But not this time. This year, I’ve decided, I’m really going to make it happen.

            “Happy New Year!”

Noise floods through my thoughts. The party is in full swing around me, hundreds of people crammed into the amazing beachfront mansion. Music plays so loud I can feel it in my chest, and everywhere I look, people are flirting and laughing, getting ready for that midnight kiss.

I check my phone. Just a few minutes to midnight. My heart beats faster. If I’m going to do this, I need to do it now. I can see Blake out on the deck, looking illegally hot in a vintage white T-shirt and jeans that deserve an award for their services to womankind. I haven’t seen him in a couple of years, but clearly, he only gets more devastating with age. It’s the reason he’s tipped as the hot new Hollywood star, about to break out in his first big movie role. But to me, he’ll always be plain old Blake Callahan: my first love, my unrequited crush.

My best friend’s older brother.

I’ve always been too scared to cross that line, but tonight is different. Tonight, everything changes. I take a deep breath, slide the doors open, and step outside.

“Hello, stranger.” My voice comes, sounding flirty and bold. Good start.

Blake turns, and I swear, his jaw drops. I feel another tremor of nerves, but they melt away when I recognize the familiar look in his eyes, the one I’ve seen from plenty of guys since my transformation, but never from him.

            Desire.

He blinks at me in disbelief.

“Zoey?” he says, sounding uncertain. “Holy shit, what happened to you?”

Play it cool, I remind myself. Easy, breezy, like hes been the last thing on your mind.

I arch an eyebrow. “Good to see you too.”

I sashay over and lean in to kiss him on both cheeks, the way I learned in Europe. I leave a smudge of scarlet on his skin, so I reach up and wipe it away. He looks confused. “Sorry, Paris,” I explain, kicking myself for the familiar gesture.

“Uh, hey,” Blake recovers. “Welcome back. Is it just a vacation visit?”

            “It depends,” I say.

“Uh, depends on what?” Blake asks. His gaze drifts down my body, all the way to my peep-toe sandals, the ones that usually make me feel invincible. But now, I feel stripped naked under his blue eyes, my heart beating so loudly in my chest I swear he can hear it over the muffled sound of the music inside.

            You.

I bite back the truth. “You’ll see,” I answer cryptically instead. “But, yes, I’m back.”

“Tegan will be happy, I know she missed you,” Blake smiles.

“Me too.” I try to relax. This is Blake, I remind myself. Not some stranger. I know him. “I missed all of you guys,” I add, thinking of the whole Callahan family: Tegan, and their two other brothers too. “Europe is a long way from home.”

I take the spot beside him and lean out to watch the dark shadow of the ocean play along the distant shore. “So what’s your resolution?” I ask, trying to sound flirty.

“I guess… Make some great movies this year,” he smiles. “Not screw up and wind up waiting tables again to make a living.”

I laugh. “No way. We all knew you had the talent, it just took the world a little while to catch on.”

“You haven’t seen me act,” Blake retorts, teasing.

“Sure I have,” I remind him. “I remember a certain show you did one Christmas…”

“No!” Blake bursts out laughing. “God, why would you remind me about that?”

“Come on,” I tease him, “you were the hunkiest Ebenezer Scrooge that Santa Monica ever saw.” He dressed up as a surfer Scrooge and played scenes on the promenade for fifty bucks. His brothers never shut up about it; we teased him all year.

“Please tell me you don’t have photos, the tabloids would go crazy,” he groans.

“Your secret is safe with me.”

“I knew I could count on you.” Blake smiles, and I’m hit all over again with the force of him: that chiseled, handsome face, the smile, those magnetic blue eyes that always belonged on a movie screen. I feel the same flip in my stomach I felt the day we first met; time and distance have done nothing to lessen his effect on me.

I think I see something shift in his expression, a glimpse of desire, but it must be wishful thinking, because he turns away.

You better get back inside,” he says shortly. “You’ll miss the party.”

            Disappointment crashes over me.

I turn and slowly walk away, feeling like a fool. All my plans are for nothing; I tried and struck out again.

But did you really try? A small voice nudges me. Didnt you promise to give it your best shot?

I gulp, then before I know what I’m doing, I whirl around and stride back to him. I put my hand on his arm, and pull him around to face me.

“It’s the New Year,” I say stubbornly, my heart racing.

“Not for another ten seconds.” Blake looks confused. They’re counting down inside, chanting the numbers.

            Time is running out.

“Then I guess we’ll have to pass the time.” I take a deep breath, gathering all my courage, and then I reach up on my tiptoes and press my lips against his.

            “Nine! Eight! Seven!…”

The voices fade away as I fall into the kiss. Blake’s mouth is warm, and I can taste the bourbon on his lips, feel the faint scrape of stubble on his jaw.

This is it. I’m finally kissing him.

But then I realize, Blake is frozen in place. He’s not kissing me back—but he hasn’t pulled away either.

I loop my arms determinedly around his neck and pull his body down against mine. As if it was the signal he was waiting for, Blake suddenly sweeps me into his arms. He spins me around, pushing me back against the railings as he kisses me hard and deep, and I come undone.

God… This is what I dreamed about, all those years of innocent fantasy. I must have played this moment a hundred times over in my mind, but nothing is as sweet as the feel of his lips claiming mine, the heat and desire blazing to life throughout my whole body.

He eases my lips apart and sinks his tongue deep into my mouth. I moan against him, arching up to press closer against his body. I can feel the taut muscle through his clothes, the gorgeous planes of his shoulders and back. His hands slide over my body, cupping my ass and molding me to him, until there’s not an inch of space between us. And all the while, his mouth is driving me crazy, teasing and demanding, his tongue sliding hotly against mine, igniting a fire in my bloodstream that spirals low between my thighs.

The sound of fireworks cuts through the haze. I pull away, breathless. Bursts of glitter and stardust light up across the bay, and there’s the sound of cheering inside. For a moment, I feel like the universe is celebrating our kiss, then I realize we kissed our way into the New Year.

Elation crashes through me. He kissed me back. I wanted a sign, and here it is: big neon letters saying “He wants you too.”

“That’s decided then,” I murmur to myself. Blake is standing there, looking shell-shocked. I smile. “Happy New Year.”

I turn on my heel, and quickly duck back into the house before I can ruin the moment. But just as quickly, my joy fades. Because now that I know there’s something between us, my feelings aren’t so safe anymore.

Loving him could destroy my friendships, my sense of family—everything that’s important to me in the world. Once we cross that line, there’s no going back.
So do I take that risk?
